Hi, can anyone please tell me:-
When setting up the pump basic timing with a dti, should the piston be in, out or midway?
What is an average injection timing Btdc? (just out of curiosity)
Is excessive knocking usually due to to far advanced or retarded injection timing?
Thanx.:hmmmm2:

What do you mean by "dti"?
Engine piston #1 is often at TDC end of compression stroke during pump installation.
Without a shop manual, I would time the engine at approx. 20 - 28 degrees BTDC.
Excessive knock is often due to advanced timing.

Diesels usually needs 3btdc-3atdc ignition in idle
with 28 degrees advance you will find the pistons in the oil sump,
28 advance is for gasoline engines in part load area while diesel use 15 to 25 advance at part load and full throttle
