range rover td6 satnav problem

hi all

my mate has just got a 04 54 plate td6 range rover vogue, the satnav has a problem.

when you turn the engine on the satnav screen powers up gray back ground with the land rover badge in green, and that as far as it go's.
the standby light flashes on and off. this means there is no radio or tv function.
Anyone come across this before???
