am having a little problem on my 306,its using water at an alarming rate and when i fill the header tank it doesnt circulate round the system.the temp guage holds steady on 90 degrees, when i stop or turn the engine off there is steam coming from under the bonnet, not a great deal but its there.the heater is just blowing cold too.oil is looking ok with no signs of sludge so what could it be?

it's French properbly got two fault.
Suggest you fill to the top with fresh WET water, find some unspecting kid who has dumped their BMX in the street - hack one of the inner tubes out, tie a knot in one end cable tie over bottle, add air see what damage it causes.
1) water pump gone and a 'leak'
2) gunged up, water pump forcing water out
3) non of above
4) there was a thread about this few months ago.

where exactly is the steam coming from when you turn off the engine ? check and make sure the small bleed return to the header is not blocked, as Meat said get it pressure tested as well

small bleed
Yeah good point Lite.
French has them STUPID BLEEDING valves to let air out.
M-H-M do not condone the use of SUPERGLUE, window bond, OR THREADLOCK and a good quality jubilee clip, when the bast*ards leak
You opened it because you had to - then wish you haden't.

Hi
1) With this winter conditions (subject to if you some where in Euro) and if your car did not have enough anti freeze than I would suspect the water pump is fault not circulating the water as it should be.
2) Check the cooling fan if they are working or not as the poor connections at the relay is a very common faults on French baby's.
Hope this helps.

dont start car-15 and seized engine will occur, people its cold and engines will freeze while driving with no coolant,4 mm allen key or 5mm needed bleed screw at end of head beside stat,if pump is gone timing belt will go also if driven and then valves.
