hi
mini one came in yesterday with no power steering and battery light on, but alternator had been changed as it wasnt charging either now 14v running, anyway i found 1 5amp fuse blown for clock etc replaced it and checked for codes found p1627 wont clear. would it be the power steering pump causing the battery light on.? and throwing the code, main supply and earth to pump ok, and all 3 wires at alternator have signals also, i just dont want to be creating a lot of work for myself if there is a simple answer.

1) No idea
2) Not sure
3) Do a search for 'tips and tricks' member Z786 posted something about Mini and PAS - thick funky fuse?
4) Does the dynamo light go off now?

Problem maybe pump drawing too much current and cooking alternator, the P1627 code is:
Alternator Load Sensor Input High

OFF TOPIC:
Lots of modern cars with this smart charging, seem to have a load sensor
which tells the ecu how much GG's your drawing.
BIT MORE OFF TOPIC:-
Had a Honda in, yes HONDA, that's right you heard, a Honda with a fault!
battery light 'flashing' load sensor in fuse box, \plastic loop' around a metal 'buzz bar' soldered the thick cables, made it 90% better, told the bloke the battery was ~~~~ed - don't do that type, took his money, sent him on his way.
ON TOPIC:-
Was it a genuine dynamo or afterthought?
Being BMW do you have to tell the car it has a new dynamo?

yes meathead, big fuse under the battery its ok, battery light is still on but charging great now with a second hand unit just.
liteace, yes i know what the code is thanks, id say possibly the pump has caused all the problems and caused the alternator to go by drawing to much current indeed, but code wont clear, maybe second hand alternator is faulty.
a lot of cars with these electric power steering systems dont work unless battery light goes out same applies for heated screens rear demisters even blower fans on peugeots and the likes.
but anyway ill have another wrestle with it.
cheers

SOLVED..................
i asked owner what all had been done to car and he said he got his local mechanic to fit alternator as car wasnt charging and he checked all fuses etc, ( obviously only the ones easy seen ) but he told mini owner that it needed to go on diagnostics to check out steering etc, anyhow i got under this thing this morning with probe to check supply at pump and it was dead i powered up probe and it was dead short, removed fusebox located the 100 amp fuse and it was blown, checked wiring from fusebox to pump all ok, removed plug from pump and no more short, so i just left disconnected and built all back up, owner getting pump fitted by his guy i didnt argue with him. now codes are cleared and battery light going out. so im happy enough to say with the new pump and fuse all will be well.
thought it might be of help to the next guy who comes across problems with 1 of these. :)
