remap question

Hi all
Having been at the dirty end of 20 years vag I have never shown any interest in remaps.Mainly retro fits and diagnosis but never entered into the world of mapping.

Any thoughts on basic remaps and recovering the files if required and what is the best tool for this work and supplier of the files.

Firstly I will be looking at mapping my own 1.9 pd tdi B6 A4 Avant Quattro and then learning further of the ins and outs as I like to under stand what I,m doing as apposed to just loading files.

I understand every man and his dog seem to offer remaps but mine is more out of interest for personal use

I have various software such as vas, vcds and opcom
