Hi all. I just stumbled across this site in google, and it looks like it could be quite helpful.
I not long ago started working in the IT department at Australias biggest licensed Cat dealer.
Since starting here, one of the common problems that the field service guys have been reporting is with using a serial-usb adaptor with ET and a comms adaptor. I now know how to resolve this connection problem. If anyone wants it, I have made a step by step guide.
Now, I am having another problem I can't resolve.
A guy has sent me down a 171-4401 comms II adapter reporting that it "will not communicate with road trucks".
I hooked it up to a test EMC we have set up, and ET/Comms Toolkit reports that I need to update the firmware. However, it is showing that there is no firmware on the adapter.

Anyone know whats going on? Apparently none of the guys in the department have encountered this before, and the EMC lab guy didn't know either.
