Hello guys

Anyone specializing on the auto gearboxes?

Got a A170 cdi that seems to have a torque convertor problem but I would like some advice.

Car runs fine when hot but when cold put it in drive or reverse and it cuts off..when getting warmer getting better and releasing some pressure but still pulling away quite hard..need to press brake quite hard to keep it still..Just when hot pressing the brake releases completely.. Brake switch is fine and no fault codes at all..

Regards

Thanks for your reply..

Car is a diesel not a ptrol with de air mass meter incorporated..

Look like a mechanical problem as the engine is stalling as the car wants to go straight away even having foot on the brakes..

I feel I haven't explaind it good enough.

Literally car will move 20inches and stalls (when engine cold)

If left running for 10 min, in the morning then you can drive it..

Any input welcome!!

change the filter first of all and the atf fluid i't doesn't have a dipstick so you will need approximately 5 litres can also be the pressure solenoid on the valve body then again you may have an internal problem with the forward drum busted.

ps: if you have got the mercedes dipstick it would do just fine as well!
uses dexron 111 but nothing wrong with using dexron 11 either

i haven't got any pics on this particular transmission plus it's been a while since i've done one so i'm going by
memory at the moment.first of all you need to support the vehicle in the air
giving yourself enough room you will then need to have an
hex set "star tooled" i think it's 30mm, preferably the one you can put in a 3/8 mm socket wrench with an extension to remove the drain plug and sump. you then have the filter to remove i think you can do this just by prying it down with a screwdriver it's got an o ring seal holding it in place "but you need to look just in case it's got an hex bolt holding it in place as well" after removing the filter you've then got the pressure solenoid to remove i'm not 1oo% sure which one it is but i think it's the biggest one i'll check to make sure and post back but one other way of doing it is ordering it from mb dealer and then just replace it by looking at it they should be difference between them. you then just need to reverse your procedure and finish off by refilling back up with oil. you need to allow the vechicle to run in drive for a period of about 8-10mins still supported so that the gearbox can load up ie oil circulate properly. if all's well you will hear the vehicle changing gears but the true result will be known when you take it for the road test.

to check if your converter torque is good you must use a diagnostic tool to see some data.
in the parammeters of BVA module choose :engine speed and input speed of BVA .
when you brake check if the input speed become zero if ok so your converter torque is good otherwise you have a problem in your converter
