have pan hot
add meat to hot pan to lock in flavours
once meat has browned add onions till there brown
once onions are brown add all the rest of the ingredients
together stock first
turn down heat and allow to simmer until meat is tender
while its cooking cook potatoes or pasta

When it says stock is it just a stock cube and water?

ya that will do fine mate
