Hello every one
I am after a good overall diagnostic scanner for reading and erasing fault codes, i am not to fussed about the programming side.
Apart from the Bosch, Snap on, Launch and other high end scanners on the market, is there any recommendations for any good scanners that will read/ and clear for most of the modern can vehicles without breaking the bank?
Also OP-COM as seen on places like ebay. Is this interface and software the same as the vaux com? Would it read and clear crash data from Corsa D 2009?
Regards

You are not going to find a good overall diagnostic scanner that is going to cover everything, the cheap ones will only do engine, even the Bosch, Snap on, Launch + other high end scanners will only cover about 70-80% of vehicles then when you get into it, it'll be another sanner to cover something the other dont then another scanner to cover what you latest & your 1st scanner dont and it goes on and on and ends up costing ??????????????????????????????????. As for the op-com working on Corsa 2009 crash data I think that all depends on what soft\hardware you have but best to check with the experts on this

I dont think op-com will do crash data, but I could be wrong. Op-com is a great scanner for opel based cars, I have many scanners-bosch, launch, snapon, carmen and more, but defiantely grab op-com first when it comes to opels

Some airbags can be cleared using the Tech-2. These will be covered by Op-com as well, either now or in the near future. However, the ebay cheap clones are old versions which probably don't have this function yet.

I reset crash data using op-com on Astra H, so cant see why it cant on corsa D m8.
As for your all round scanner china are now doin multidiag clone, for around ?500.
I bought one but was un fortunate mine didnt work correctly, so sent back and got refund thanks to paypal. For something you use everyday might be best to buy original. I have snap on solus with 10.4 software. Machine is very reliable, not bad coverage for everyday mechanic. Ask your snap on man m8, for price of new and used, ask him for 10.4 software and how much.

Hi
As you have mentioned you are looking for something which can only Read and Error Fault Codes on Modern Vehicles than I thing here is the best tool as I have being using this Tool for last 5 years and I am quite happy with it, it will cover 75% to 85% on most of the Vehicle with ONLY 16 pin OBD PLUG. as it only have 16 pin interface as you can see in the above link.
But, its worth the money what you pay for this Tool.........Trust Me this tool dose more than only Read and Error.........It also dose Key Programming on some models, Injectors Programming some models, Reset Of DPF some models, its also has the option to unlock the Ignition Switch On Saab's as its a Common Faults on Saab and many more options :bounce:
V-Tech UK: Products: Opus CMT Scan & Pro (http://www.v-techuk.com/english/products/diagnostics/cmt/index.asp)

The cheapest tool is an elm interface (with pc / laptop), but is limited to engine and obd2 data (read and clear errors from mil-lamp). With scanxl software you can get advandced features for us-cars (gm, chrysler, ford).
There are cheap handheld scanners that can read and clear obd2 errors.
Autel maxidiag 70x seems to be a cheap but useful handheld tool, too. Can do cars up to year 2008 and supports obd2 and manufacturer specific codes for engine, abs, airbag for euro-, us- and japanese cars (no korean i found).

thank you everyone for your replies and help.
The cheap clone version you see advertised with some showing the latest full software included, are these more or less the same as going out and paying the full price for the genuine op-com? Or is there a difference in performance?

op-com clone works well, but many clones do not perform as well as the originals, the tend to be a little outdated and not updateable-but there are exceptions.
by the way, you should mpress thanks to all the people helping you out

We have 13 scan tools here ranging from an antique ACR4 right up to most dealer kit.
For what you are looking for, if you didn't have a budget I'd recommend Dec SS3. Excellent coverage and programmes almost everything that we see quicker and easier than the dealer tool. ( I know your not worried about programming but it's usefull when you do need it )
However, as you don't want to 'break the bank' I'd be going for an ACR 4 off ebay if you can find a reasonably priced one with all the pods....... If you can't.......
It's got to be Vag-com pro. For around 300 notes you get virtually dealer level for vw, audi, skoda and seat. That's a massive coverage from one tool ! Plus vag-com is ( in my opinion ) the best eobd tool available.
Hope this gives you some food for thought.

For a cheap hand held that does a lot for ?160 ish you can't beat the Autel maxidiag 70x (http://www.auteltech.com/eu02.htm), the software from all the 70 series scanners is interchangeable, and you can fit most of it on at once, find em on ebay (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p4695.m570.l1313&_nkw=autel+maxidiag&_sacat=See-All-Categories), dont buy any software from ebay it's available free on sealey's website for their sealey branded versions of the same units

Most of the brands can be found at sealey, and all can be found here at dk, so that all available brands can be picked up for free.

most of the big aftermarhet jobs are ok-launch, autoboss, carmen, ultrascan-you are always gonna find holes in anyones coverage.
my advice is get a generic and then go manufacturer specific as you need it with vcds, op-com, etc

Snapon in my opinion are a joke ?800.00p for update to 10.4 wich I declined used a x431 the other day to try and it knocked spots of the snapon and the x431 was a grey import and cost less than the update price for snapoff.
