if you all ready have a dish pointing at 28.2 east (the sky satellite ) you can connect the dreambox to it and recieve all the free to air channels (there are quite a few ). what dreambox do you want to buy sd or hd ? , you can get a dm500s (which is sd ) for under ?50 here
DealExtreme: $75.40 Dream DM-Box DM500 V8 DVB-S Standalone Linux Digital Satellite Receiver with LAN Port (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/dream-dm-box-dm500-v8-dvb-s-standalone-linux-digital-satellite-receiver-with-lan-port-29102)

or a dm800s (which is hd) for about ?135 here

Unless you made typo error you need satellite box (500s) not cable box (500c) ,

As you stated it is a 500c ? if that is the case when you flash it you will get nothing other than a few terrestrial channles and blank screens due to the new encryption to vermain called N3 .... you would be better off getting a freeview box as that will have more than your 500c will be able to display on cable.

as anbiewill said a dm500c (c for cable) its not going to open pay channels as boxes did a few years ago . all you will get is a few free to air channels (there is no nagra3 hack atleast as we speak) if your good with a soldering iron you can change the tuner to a satellite tuner .
but with the time and expensive needed you could buy a dm500s ,of course you will need a satellite dish instead of the cable feed. and you will have lots of free channels.
