sounds like browser secutiry levels or router settings need looked at.
She doesn't have any parantal control software to stop the kiddies getting access to certain sites?

its a 3g router and ive no problem connecting to sites when dongle is connected directly into laptop
what should i be looking for in router settings or browser security

start out by checking the security settings.
Im still on xp so if she is on win 7 it might be a bit different
go to "control panel" and "security settings" and then the "internet options" and have a look and see if there are any restricted sites and also have a look at firewall settings in there too

ok check out the browser settings first
How to Block a Website in Internet Explorer 7 - wikiHow (http://www.wikihow.com/Block-a-Website-in-Internet-Explorer-7)
have a read at that and check if there are any websites blocked in IE
you could always try downloading another browser like firefox and trying that out just in case
