What deal would you recommend for a Dreambox light user,as ive said its only for tv and nothing else.
Andy
ohno
30th January, 2011, 10:05 PM
like i said in post 2 a dongle will work with dreambox if used with a router you need to have a 3g signal and if you turn the box off{not standby} with 8 hrs a day of use connected to 2 servers you will use less than 1.5 giggs a month.

So the Vodaphone would be viable for a light user and once the credit runs out just find a cheap supplier if it unlocked?
Cant see my mate using more than 5 hours a day max, half the time hes out so hoping something like this would work.
Andy.

yep that is viable but tell him if he,s watchin free to air channels for long periods to pull the dongle out coz even tho its tiny there is a handshake with the server, if you only have a 1gb limit every little helps. the usage i quoted are for sly nds most others like nagra, conax, crypto or via would not be as heavy.

Light user as light internet user,he would only use it for the Dreambox and nothing else. He lives on his own and is at work all day so tv at night and a bit at weekends, cant see him using 3 gig,

sorry to have to correct you but thats wrong .
if your db is connected to a server even if you are watching a fta channel your box still has a handshake with the server(fact) handshake means usage on his dongle and like i said if you only have 1gb a month every little helps. unplug dongle no hanshake no usage(fact)
my box over last 15 minutes used 160 bytes whilst on sky news(fta) connected to 9 servers. a SERVER with 20 people on it uses less than 6gb a month between up and down so were you get your figures from beats me.

ok so your sharing a card if thats so...
hes on about recieving one in the sticks
im not here for arguing ...
im just stating my facts on my side
so heres my 5 pence worth
yes dongles work depending on your signal
it takes on my guessing a 24/7user as in watch it when ya like
3 gig dl per month
fta channels cost nothing as a user
sharing is probably different

Thanks for all the info guys im still confused as both of you have valid points.
He will only be using the dongle for the Dreambox and nothing else i suppose i could give it a go and worst case scenario take out a 3 gig package if the other wasnt good enough.
Anyone else out there with their tuppence worth to add to dongles and Dreamboxes.

just remember when dongle is plugged in even if you are not using box or using internet the dongle also has handshake with isp dont know how much but should be easy to check on your pc with the software thats running the dongle.

This works for me using a zoom 3g n router but my ping is all over the place 300ms+ so i get a lot of glitching. The weird thing is if im using the laptop for skype or utorrent the glitching stops and my ping is in the 100-120ms bracket so there is no glitching. It would be nice if i knew how to set up my router or box so it would constantly keep my ping low without having to run utorrent or skype in the background.
