View Full Version : Dashboard CLIO 2 MCU

Hi all !!

I'm working on dashboard from Renault Clio 2.

And it seems to have problem on a little Mcu on pcb (when putting freeze gas on it, tacho blinks).

Ref are : JCAE 21671662-7 .

After searchs, JCAE seems to be Johnson Controls Automotive Electronic. But i didn't know this mcu manufacturer. :hmmmm2:

Is this only a marking and actually made by other (Atmel, Motorola, etc).

Is there anybody knowing more about this enigma ?

should be a 93c56 eprom, may be it's due to a corrupted dump.

what have you done to have the dash in this state?

There's about 44 pins (qfp)

It is a MCU NEC uPD 780xxx, not 44 pins but 80 pins
It is square it is uPD780828, it is rectangle it is uPD780973
Datasheets available on NEC corp. website
Very tricky to rewrite the internal prom.

If it is however 44 pins it is uPD78083, also NEC.

How R u sure its nec mcu? did u try it one time on JCAE references ?

The MCU`s are masked, no many dashes MCU are written with the original manufacturer. The dash manufacture tells what to be written on the MCU ( this is masking ) for one as us not know what type is.
My experience tells me that Reno clio, logan and many other renos are made with NEC uP, masked JCI, JCAE, SAGEM.
Only one dash i found with MCU original marking in a logan, uPD780828 and one in a solenza uPD780973
For that clio i`m pretty sure it is a NEC MCU.
Please look at the datasheet of NEC MCU`s uPD780xxx series and you will find if i`m wrong or not.

You're probably right. After thinking, it's looking like NEC 78 k .

On those mcu, Flash is protected in read ?
Only eeprom should be read
