New hdd-Will i still have linux

I recently bought a HDD to put into my XBOX. Since then i've changed my mind and just had the idea of putting into my PS3, what i want to know i this. What is the largest update i can install using a memory stick so as not to loose the luxury of having LINUX on my PS3.Would it be possible for one of you to send me a recommended link for me to download it from. 3.15 is the highest you can go if you want to install Linux (Yellow Dog) on a unjailbroken ps3. YDL.net (http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/support/installation/)

If you have a jailbroken ps3 you can go up to custom firmware 3.55
