cheap motorised dish from ebay any good?

got a 500cs and want to play around with sat side and have found some cheap ones on ebay.
Can anyone tell me if they will be any good please.

Depend where you are located, If you are in the UK I would personally go for a 90cm/1mtr dish and a good low noise LNB, as Thor has some weaker frequencies as do a lot of other Sats.
Really depends on what Sats you want to look at.

Well the Dish itself looks like a ECO satellite dish the 80cm one retails at 10-12 pounds on Ebay the motor retails at 45 pounds other fixtures and fittling would bring it 80 or so pounds.

The motor can be used on dish size up to 1.1M. Not bad

In my view its not a bad buy at all, It would cost you a lot more than 80 or so quid to get everything you need separately.

Nice question wizard. I have been looking at cheap motorized systems recently too. Will you be setting up the dish yourself?

If so do you need one of these? or are the more expensive ones worth the money?

How far do these things rotate? Like can you have all the satellites set up? ie from East all the way to the West ones?

if you have a good view south you can get all the sats in your eastern horizon.. now depending on the size and quality of your dish & sat receiver will give a variation on transponders received

decent dish, receiver and line of sight will get you TP's from Express AM22 at 53.0?E to Intelsat 1R at 45.0?W

I got my 1m dish, LNB and motor from Wizard satellite in Hinckley last Christams, I also got the sat meter with my kit. I found the sat meter a waste of time, it was easier asking the wife to shout to me when the signal levels rose or fell . Been working perfectly ever since.

yep forgot to say.. if your going motorised.. then make sure you get a minimum of 1m dish.. otherwise you'll get cock all from most sats.. 80cm good for Astra and Hotbird, not much else

Yeah thats what scares me! I was reading today that Nilesat requires a minimum of 1.2m and that 1.8-2.4m is recommended! I have no idea where I am going to put this monster dish. It can't go on front or side of house, and the back points West. The only option is to put it at the back but peering over the roof (although I don't think this is allowed - I lost the link but I read some guidelines for sat installs and it said you shouldn't break the skyline :s).

I have a 1m in West of Ireland and tbh pick up Thor no problems. There is very little I'd view bar 28.2, 19.2, 13.0, and 1.0w.

Can't get a decent signal on 7.0e though

Nilesat is only good for Showtime.. and Orbit is better on Badr 3 & Eurobird 2 at 26.0?E..

Showtime is only good for the footie.. and then all the games are on 0.8W, 13E, 16E & 19E

1m will be your best bet.

Saddiq your guide said that badr2 needs 100cm-120cm. Do you pick this up with your 90cm dish?

Is this ok or should I get separates and go for a quality manufacturer like Gibertini?

That is how much I paid last Christmas for similar items, as opsmonkey says you could get it cheaper but do you really want to go hunting round everywhere and than worry wether it will all work togather? I have read on a few forums that the bracket you have there could bend a little with the weight in the wind and you are better off going for the T&K brackets.
