Thought you typed or read out wrongly, IAW 8Pxx normally contains 68HCP11A1, direct type exists in UPA. Selection of 'E' family may not be good as it has RAM capacity of double size of 'A' family.

Only know that if this ECU/MCU is read in circuit by UPA, it will return MODB and RESET bad. Not sure that lifting the two pins will help. Xprog-m goes smoothly without lifting.

Use A8/E9 PLCC52 diagram, A1 is the ROMless version of A8.

Do you have mc68hcp11'A1'xFN PLCC 52 pins in your 8Pxx ECU, don't you? 'FN' stands for PLCC and only being PLCC 52 pins, no larger PLCC like PLCC68 or 84 in A and E family (64 pin device is of 'QFP' package)

However, if with A,E family of QFP64 package, you take the diagram of A8/E9 QFP64. The programmer operation is the same, nothing special only MCU hardware connection difference.
