badgarageschemce.com rules clearly state
"always think of yourself first, lie first, deny everything"
Can you BUY a certificate with your user name on, that way if 'found out'
you can say and show a certificate from
"Meat-City-University" or "Toytown College" etc etc.

It's a tricky one and one that depends on who your future employer is. Some use professional HR companies who will do a complete check on you and if you're caught you're out on your ear. Some including the company I work for also do yearly checks to update their records. A lot will rely on what your job will be. Like most training you will probably only use 20% of what a course teaches you, just hope it's an area you know about. There's also public liability involved if you carry out a task and someone gets injured then the H+S executive find you weren't trained. Your shout I'm afraid.

Telling lies is awesome, ask Tommy Sheridan :p
I've seen plenty of forged documents before, some of them actually pretty good. If the employer knows what to look for then your screwed, especially if there's an on-site accident and payouts are concerned, then EVERYTHING gets scrutinised.
Think of loosing an arm knowing you cant work again and getting screwed out of everything due to a wrong date, candidate number, shoddy paperstock or bad inking.
Is it really worth it?

Maybe the last engineers you worked with had forged HNC papers. Short term employment you should be ok. If long term your career could end at any moment on being found out. Any chance of getting back to college ?

I don't know anyone who doesn't lie on job application forms,
whether it be about, formal qualifications, past unemployment, reason for leaving last job,
you do what is necessary to find a job, I bet the other applicants are also lying on there application forms,
think of it this way, what is the worst that could happen, you lose the job and your back to where you are now,
if you don't do it, status quo,
as long as your not putting anyone at risk, (doctor/nurse lying) and you know you can do the job, I don't see a problem.

If you lie you are just stealing a job from someone who has put the hours in at college and gained the qualification - something you can't be bothered to do.

We had a prime minister who lied his entire political career about being an accountant. so you've a precedent for embellishing your CV. then again look what he did to the country, lol

A lot of employers ask for an HNC. if you can prove you have years of actual experience in the field they require then that is quite often good enough. Lets face it anyone can go to college and get an HNC. it doesn't mean they can actually do a job being an electrician or design build and maintanance of machinery/components.
Whether or not to lie I can't say.

I think a lot of ppl on here grew up in a time when, you had to go out to work, to help support the family, and from a moral stand, I think we're better for it, at least we know and understand the value of money. As stan said, we didn't have the luxury of being able to go to college. Most of us now have our own families now and will certainly want more for them, than our parents were able to give us. But if any of my kids speak down to a person that's had a hard upbringing, I'd slap the head off him and make him realise what it was like in the real world. We're giving our kids too much!!!!

Sadly in todays society the guy getting the job will probably be a mate of someone working there or a relative anyway.
Someone that's got off their arse is worth more to an employer than a piece of paper anyday. That said if someone from a poor background had the quals they'd get my vote.

All well and good saying that, but i was 18 years old, no GSCE's, no money, no job experience, in the wrong place, wrong time, spoke to the wrong person, then to make things worse with out anymore questions, ended up with a job at "Meat-Head-Motors", two days a week on day release from college, then kept going back to "Mead-Head-Motors" instead of doing homework, and ended up will a full time job.
My first job, on my own was fitting a car alarm to a brand spanking new van
only been there a day! - Took all day, but managed it.

but this isn't his first job since leaving school,
it would be a bit difficult lying about previous employment, when you don't have any.
I left school at 16, when unemployment was at 4 million, and the best I could hope for was a, YOP, YTS, or, MSC scheme, ?25 for a weeks work,
like I said previously, you do what you have to, to get a job,

I think you are missing the point here standarren. You asked as to whether you should lie about qualifications and as soon as you receive a reply from someone who has taken the time to give an opinion, one you obviously don't like, you brand the person an arsehole. Seems to me your mind was made up before you posted.
Incidently , a lot of people on DK have given a lot of their time and experience to you throughout the different forums on DK and to the best of my knowledge it has been all take on your part.

If you do lie and you get caught, you could get the book thrown at you, and possibly even a criminal record. You are after all forging official documents, you are talking about quite serious consequences (possibly) if something goes wrong in engineering or M&E environment. A HNC costs about ?250 a year - a 2 year course. Why dont you just go and do the course.
I also have to say, no point having a go at the other poster and bemoaning your situation. A lot of people on here I suspect where in the same boat - I know I was, but I paid by hook or crook for my course and worked at least 2 jobs during the week and a few hours on a Saturday morning to pay for it - all this whilst studying nightschool. How would you feel if you completed your HNC and put all the hard work in, and then found out someone had been given the job who had lied through the teeth to get it and took it from possibly from you.
You pays your money you takes your chance.

How long have you been an Engineer? Usually if you have been doing it or really any job for atleast 10 years you don't need any college.
