On older models you tap the signal strength, and you will see a figure there. On newer models you may need to dig into your menu and find info.
Or you can find the ttgo.bif file in the root of your device, open it with notepad, and paste the results in here, the first few lines are the relevant parts
example
[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom GO 700
DeviceVersionHW=GO 700
DeviceSerialNumber=M12345E02340
DeviceUniqueID=AKXXX AXXXX
RamDiskVersion=20081205
BootLoaderVersion=54201
LinuxVersion=2344
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183
UserLanguage=English UK
Hide your unique device number if you want.
Above you will see navcore is 7.903 and bootloader is 5.4201

you have two choices your navcore can be updated 2 ways
1 you can download tomtom home & update to the latest official
navcore for your device which is 7903 9183 using tomtom home.
http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7448/c/2353
2 follow my tutorial & update navcore 8410.
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f179/tutorial-how-update-tomtom-navcore-map-first-timers-176617/
navcore 8410 will have more features like lane guidance & cspeech
which ever navcore you use will effect which map to use.

First thing I would do, seeing as your navcore is old. 6.560 is connect to Tomtom home, and let it update to the recommended Navcore.. hopefully 7.9xx or better.
Then Tell me again what navcore you have.
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TMTP5HXU)

Western and central Europe maps are over 2Gb in size, This should work on your machine. This is Western Erurope 8a65 3259 just under a gig.
Damm and blast... taximan got there before my uploading finished lol

Well done, your navcore is 7.903
Follow taximans guide.
Close down TTHome, and rightclick the TThome icon, and exit it.
Using windows explorer, put your map and fastactivate into root, run fastactivate from left to right, ie, update meta, crack map, and patch Home..
Bob should hopefully be your uncle... disconnect, boot up and chose your map in tomtom.
TTHome SHOULD recognise your device.. Even if it failed, you can still use TTHome to download, and update, just not able to 'Operate my Go'.
