hey guys, was hoping someone in here might be able to help me.
I bought an 98 opel combo to replace my old one but i cant seem to get the speedometer to work on it. The gearbox sensor seems to be ok (tried it in old van), all the fuses seem ok. I tried my old clocks on the new one they wouldnt work either.
The engine had been replaced with an astra td,(leaving the combo gearbox). the only thing that looked wrong was he had overfilled with gearbox oil, which i drained to correct level. temp/ fuel and lights seem fine
Anyone got any ideas what i might be missing?

(dashboard clock/dateoutside temp isnt working either, i though they maybe connected)

sounds like

a) bulbs blown in centre dash or dry joints
b) MISSING fuse - does the battery light and oil lite work?
c) Rumor going around dating back to when the van was 2 or so years old, the plug for the speedo would fill with water and rot the pins/wires under the hood

centre dash clock works fine in old van, so ill try joints tomorrow.
All lights, brake, heaterplug, oil, batt, temp gauge and fuel gauge work fine, just speedo.
fuses seem to be all same as old van and i dont see any place to put extra in the blank spaces

ill pull plug from sensor tomorrow and check it out tata.

can only suggest:-

On the blue.red wire it goes SORT OF CORRECT BUT WRONG INFO, from speedo sensor to the multiplug in the drivers side foot well, then to the immobox on sterring colon - join the two blue/red's - then to the radio, same again.

also, if you are driving - get a friend to help - if you press the two buttons on the clock wheilst driving should say XX KM/H - useless info - Daddy discovered one day (before he died)

speedo definitely electric, D.zio. not cable. (and also electric in my old 99 model)

Edit
i put an astra gearbox in my old van and it had a cable setup but i took some gear and electrical stuff out of combo box and put it in astra one and seemed to work out fine.

well, had a look and there had been a cut and paste job at some stage in the loom. metered all the wires and the brown going into the sensor wasnt earthing, followed it and reconnected and speedo went straight to 88mph.

dash centre clock- plugged in and out a few times with some WD almost working fine now but losing memory when i turn off lights. but ill get over that.

im off now to invoice myself for a new sensor and gearbox, new clocks, one scotchlock 3 cm of wire and 18 hours labour in hopes of getting into bad garage scheme lol

Many thanks for help.

I think your nearly there if its losing memory, it has to work for 1-3 miles then stop again and I think your'll qualify, best ask Meaty 1st !!
