So much for the government claiming that most universities in UK will charge ?6000 from 2010. That was just a spin as almost all are going to charge the maximum of ?9000.

We are going to have a whole lost generation as many will not be able to afford the higher fees or if they still enrol, they will live in total financial chaos once they have to start paying!

Students should realise that higher education isn't a right.. Why should we subsidise toffs to go on the piss for 3 years..? Most spunk all their grant on booze and drugs..

The fact that they get a decent job with a higher than average wage means they can afford to pay it back..

If they chinned off all the shite courses that aren't worthy of a degree then it would be better..

University is seen as the cool thing to do.. Well pay for it yourself then

AFAIK the fees are not payable until you have completed the course (or leave) and on a minimum income.

yeah, totally agree with you. Simply because most schools might think they inferior to others if they charge less therefore almost all of them will charge the maximum.

Do you seriously think that after a 3 year course, a uni graduate should have a ?50,000 debt. And when do you reckon they will be able to pay it off?

Not all graduates will be get cushy jobs which will pay hundreds of thousands of pounds and/or bonuses.

Then their degree wasn't worth the paper it was printed on to begin with.
If you don't think your degree will net you a decent career at the end then what's the point of gaining it in the first place?

Got to agree there are too many Mickey Mouse degrees out there. There's also too many students prepared to sit on their arses and let the debt build up. I know loads of people from poor backgrounds that went to Uni and also worked part time. They left with no debt.

I also know loads that took made up courses and pissed their spare time up the wall that have left with loads of debt. If I was to employ anyone with a degree I'd slip into the conversation about how it's easy to build up debts at Uni. If someone told me they left with no debt or little debt they'd get the job. No one subsidises me going to work.

Usually, Education boards offer means tested grants and bursaries. If you come from a poor background, there's a good chance that the education board will pay your fees AND provide you with a bursary of about ?2,000 per year. There are also loans availble on top of that of the same amount. These have to be paid back at a rate of 9% of what you earn above ?15k.

So I really don't see how bumping up the fee's to ?9k per year will limit access to higher education to the rich. If anything it's the middle classes who will suffer.

I agree with what people have said though. I've seen so many waster students stagger through their degrees in a drunken stupor. You wanna know what the sick thing is though - they're the snotty nosed little *****s that will be the hard working mans boss in a few years.
