be carfull with optican. It was really a good tool, long time ago.
Now, no updates since 6month ... so why you buy 1000?/1year for updates ? ?
And also strange problems sometimes ...:stupid:

But it depens on the price, you get the optican ...

My tip is to buy other tool ... KESSv2, CMD, Genius, Galletto !!

But only Optican can do EDC 17 CP22 by obd (only this i found) . First i want buy KESSv2 but EDC17 CP22 only by BDM.
If will be only or more negative opinions about Optican i do not buy.
masterb thank you for reply.:top:

EDC17CP22 have Infineon Tricore CPU inside and this have JTAG not BDM. All tools which can do this type of ECU use boot-mode or directly over OBD. If its possible to read and write flash content from this type of ECU (EDC17 families) over OBD or only boot-mode, depends from the software version of ECU. (depend of used T-prot protection )

Optican information say can do it by obd in Kessv2 information say only boot mode. So what is going on?

Try it and you will see... Probably Optican can do this type of EDC17 over OBD but question is: if for all SW version?

Hi yes optican promises moon from sky but real life if it is tune protected you dont do it thru OBD most of time you can read it but after write it wont start and you have to write original back again and what i hear optican bootmode is not best at moment i got optican dual but not updated for tricore for them i use magpro2 x17
PS:if it is year 2010 or younger you can expect tune protected car

Can you explain exactly to me how they are protected against tuning.

Do you know what a RSA signature is?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSA
Read this and you will understand how it works.

After writing modified flash content tool must calculate also RSA signature for ECU and flash. If you not calc RSA or calc is wrong ECU will be locked and car will not start!!!

I know RSA but how it used to protect ECU?Can you show me example? How recognize is ECU protected?

Im not remeber the SW version from Bosch for EDC17 but its from some 103xxxxxx from year 2010. If its ECU protected or not you will see after writting if car start or not....
Some new version of ECU its not possible to write over OBD if its protected....

Almost all 2010-2011 edc17 ecu's are TP protected. Try via OBD and you will lock the ecu. For TP bootmode is the only way for now. Buy OPTICAN and you will regret throwing money on the window. Fot the same money you can buy MAGPRO2 + X17 and this is a far better tool.

I found this and it is not only one.
So i do not know it is possible do by obd ? I compare on Volvo XC60 EDC 17CP22 , one tuning tool producer claims that only by boot mode other claims it is possible by obd.

Volvo EDC17CP22 is flashable via OBD-2...

Have you done it by your self or just read it from optican site ?

I have done it by myself, without using OptiCan or anything similiar. I have done it myself using a tool developed partially by myself, so I know.

Sure, heres a flash readout via OBD-2.

adam12112

This is only part of flash

This is only part of flash

Of course it is, it is, as I emphasized, read via OBD-2. This is however all you need in order to make a tuning file for this ECU-variant. Was there any other part of the flash that was of particular interest? If so, I could retrieve that as well, however the other parts of the flash are not readable via OBD-2.
