Sony has broken another promise, originally they planned to restart the PSN network this weekend as per their previous 'press releases' earlier this week, but were quickly forced to delay the re-launch of the PSN and SOE networks as the previously rumored 'third wave' attack did infact start to appear tonight!

This time, the still unknown 'hackers' started their 'third wave' attack by accessing an old unused Playstation website from 2001, and publishing what they found on other public websites, a complete list of all the contest winners with over 2,500 very detailed personal information, it not known at this time if more attacks are still coming in against other Playstation websites.

Sony spokeswoman confirmed with Reuters that relaunching within the original expected time frame would not be possible, and there is no firm date for the return of online services.

The latest note from SCEA senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold on Friday night said, "When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week."

"We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system," he added. "...Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online."

Sony is also reportedly considering offering a reward for help in catching the perpetrators of the cyber attack, according to Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital blog, which cited "people familiar with the matter."

The reward may or may not be implemented, the report said, as Sony executives are weighing the pros and cons of such a move, which would be made in coordination with law enforcement.
In trying to stop this new 'third wave' attack, Sony shutdown more of their servers, and are now thinking of 'offering a reward' to bring these trouble-making 'hackers' to justice, as Sony has had no luck in tracking them down for almost a month now!

They are getting all they deserve.

I highly doubt Anonymous had anything to do with it as a group.

They should be hammered for the lapse in security but will they.

NO they will be allowed to get away with it.

no some are good, they could hack another mods account here on DK and delete some of GMB45's spam posts.

Must admit, DF would notice this as soon as he goes into his front room as the DK server will be listing to one side with all that weight lost. :roflmao:

easy to say m8, but its bloody annoying when you pay 30 -40 quid a game ,especially if its for mostly online and cant play it.. i remember when xbox live went down for 15 days in 2008, all them were just the same as us

As you would expect.

Xbox Live is a far superior service and is paid for.

Sony need taken down a peg or two, and that is exactly what is happening.

To be honest i think considering ps3 online gaming was free, it wasnt too bad, yes xbox does have a better online service but again you have to pay for it....

end of the day theres others ways to piss sony off without affecting psn users

I think you'll find they're doing more than just taking down PSN.

And I agree, PSN is great value for money (none) but I still find Live a lot better.

Shame on you selling the 360.

I love both my PS3 and 360, the only console I don't like is the Wii, but I'm looking forward to the Wii 2 or whatever they decide to call it.

I had the Sony PS1 and have the PS2 and PSP but, have to admit I have a 360 which is great for online gaming in which I've had no problems with at all. :) :aetsch:

It's not as if lives revolve around online gaming though, so you should just wait until it comes back up and go out and do something less boring instead.

PS3 does have an okay blueray player though ;)

Ive been following the story with interest.

1.25Billoin into the red so far, and that's just Sony's revenue.
When you add to this that there are indie developers exclusively marketing their software on the PSN the losses become absurd.
Then there's Portal 2 with its free pc version. to access that though you need to link your ps3 copy to a steam account via the psn, so yeah thats not happened.
Then things like Lovefilm/Netflix which require you to be logged into the PSN to authenticate, they're losing revenue.
MMORPG games with monthly subscriptions losing money.
Big titles like Brink by Bethesda which is primarily multi player, Dirt 3 by Codemasters, Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix (this is another MMORPG so without a network its completely useless), LA Noir by Rockstar... completely dead in the water even before they see a release.

Once you factor in all the lawsuits from seriously pissed off developers and companies that are haemorrhaging money and losing sales in the peak gamer season (normally set for kids summer holidays) the numbers get mindboggling.

This is even before the class action lawsuits are filed from pissed off gamers who've suffered identity theft and stolen money...
New projections now show May 31st, and to be frank this seems wildly optimistic considering they're trying to rebuild from the ground up.
After telling a Congressional Committee that they ran an outdated and UNPATCHED version of Apache, stored all their stuff as PLAINTEXT as a cost cutting measure (encrypting files costs clock cycles and that translated directly to lost money) and then to make matters worse didnt even run a FIREWALL!
Now they have to rebuild from scratch using current patched software... this alone needs extensive testing to ensure its bullet proof and then develop a custom fireewall... in 16 days??? LOL not ~~~~ing likely.
If the network is back up by mid June in perfect working order then I'll be really surprised.
The mammoth task would normally take several months for seasoned experienced professionals, and this is Sony with its track record of little to no real experience with networking software on this scale.

I think Sony is going to head the way of Sega at this rate, i see the corporation completely dumping the Console division and moving into games development as a side revenue where they can keep turning a profit.
The losses by the end of the financial year will be staggering. Just as they've started making the actual units break even and not lose them money too!
