If each red and black wire is 5volts why does it state 12v on the label.

i would use a laptop cooler fan they connect to the box usb
and the box sits on top of it

I had a very noisy fan in my dm800s it sounded a like a helicopter taking off when you started the box. I took it out and sprayed the fan spindle with WD-40 and its now whisper silent.

Only until the fan dries up. Then noise comes back and you have to continously re-oil it.

Just wondering, Can the onboard usb port be used with a usb fan.

That is, if I made a usb fan can I insert it into the usb port on the motherboard underneath where the HDD sits.

Yes you can use the external or internal slot to power the fan. But doing as Curious says will have the same result and it doesn't dry out for a long while especially if you remove the sticker from underneath the fan.

I have done so with a few DM800s.

I have a cooler fan ordered but in the meantime I need a temporary fan.

I read somewhere that the internal usb had only an output of 5v. This seems odd to me.

I was wondering why I never came accross any post about people utilising the onboard usb.

I looked at your other thread as the box was only eight months old why did you not send it back under warranty.

If you say you bought it directly from China I understand the costs and hassle associated with such. But if you bought it in the UK then I would definitely return it under warranty.

It was china. It was an ordeal just to communicate i.e. email and time zone. In hindsight I should have sent back under warranty. But I thought it was gonna take all summer there and back.

Yes it can be a bit of a nightmare but if it was a MOBO fault only they would ask you to send it back and they would send a replacement.

This usually speeds things up, but looks like you have already got a replacement.

As far as the clone dm800 are concerned I don't think any of the UK dealers are prepared to cover the warranty any more then 3 months. My apologies if this an over exageration but I am speaking from experiance.
