View Full Version : Starview 4 - the Box Super USB - Poor picture

I recently obtained a Starview 4 - the Box Super USB and flashed with firmware v1.06_beta.
The signal reports at 57%-59% with 99% quality.
It's okay for viewing sometimes but often it's really choppy, like digitally choppy, with glitches in the audio.
Has anybody any ideas or had a similar experience?
I've read in posts of bombs.
Could Richard have sent me one?

Thanks for the advice bigfella.
I have reflashed but to no avail.
I'm still getting a choppy picture.
I have checked all the cables and they seem to be okay and run a normal v***** box no problem.
Are the signal strength and quality I reported in my first post normal values?
I'm starting to think the box is goosed... but it's only a couple of weeks old and was fine for the first week or so.
I'm going to reflash after a factory reset and delete trhe channel list to see if that makes any difference.
Cheers!

you could try a booster to try and improve signal strength. make sure in settings you have the tv set to rgb.

Thanks for the firmware link guys.
I've now flashed to image 1.07 and will check for image breakup.
It doesn't happen all the time so I'll let you know how I get on.

double check you scart cables, these are notorious for being troublesome....ynwa

Still crap with the latest update, going to check all connections to the road! I think I need a better signal than 66%? Would a signal booster help?

Hi Arsonpanda

My mate's got a staview 4 with less than 58% strength but his picture's spot on, where as my starview 4 has 66% and loads of picture break up!

The guy I purchased from reckons firmware image v1.08 is out and may fix the issue but I'm convinced it's hardware.

Is you box well ventilated... could it be overheating?

Hi X'perts,
I got "The box super usb" few months back and flashed with v1.07. It was working fine until few weeks back.
Though i am getting most of the channels, picture breaks continuosly..
Any ideas?
After reading through the forums,
1. Did factory reset and rescanned
2. Tried downloading the v1.10, but when i try to flash..the process hangs with a message "Dont switch off the box.....". I had to switch the box off and turn it on. Firmwire version still says 1.07 and getting channels with bad picture.

Pls help..
I am living in Greater London area.

I have been told that using splitters will reduce the signal strength, as they have got some resisters inside. I have removed my splitter and joined the wires together using a cable connecter, Picture quality better than using splitters but only time will tell.

it was more so the cheap ones were giving problems, the screw on ones are better.
