Was strimming garden the other day and run out of string. Put new string in and all of a sudden the strimmer wouldnt cut. Motor started fine but head wouldnt turn much. Took it into a garden place and they said its the gearbox, that I never greased the nipple and the gearbox is nackered. He said he wouldnt know the extent of the problem until he opened it up.

Anyone any input on this, will I need a new gearbox or can it be repaired.

Where can I get a part number for the gearbox.

Hi mrblue, it's possible the mechanic is right having experience of strimmers. I've googled and you may be able to download a manual but they usually come with a price.
As the strimmer is out of action if you are in any way mechanically minded could you not open it up to investigate it yourself?
Failing that it's the garden center or a new one.
