Have you got a null modem cable between your usb to rs232 adaptor and your box?

check to see you are connecting on the right com port,
i have a usb to serial adapter and can flash the DM500 using DreamUp without any problem.

i have it connected like this...

openmedia 500cs -> Rs232 cable -> Rs232 to usb -> to my pc

i just went to a couple of computer shops for the null modem cable and they adv me that the null cable modem
is the same as the rs232 cable,

any idea peeps?

p.s i have set my rs232 to usb as my com1 port and it gives me an option for com port 1,
so i know thats not the problem

try on a diff computer that has a fixed rs232 port on it, some usb to rs232 adapters are hit and miss.

Make sure you have a null modem serial cable (15 pin female on either side is best to describe what it should look like)

Apply the power to the openmedia after you have clicked on connect.

That lead should be ok.
Try removing all leads to the box except the serial lead then click ok and then plug in power lead.
If that does not work it is probably the USB adapter causing the problem.

Make sure your settings on the PC are set to use com1.

that was a p*ss take lol!

try openmedia as the password,

if that fails do the following:-
change ip address on pc lan to 192.168.1.19
chane ip on openmedia to 192.168.1.10

set both subnets to 255.255.255.0 (already should be set to this)

reset openmedia and repair lan connection on openmedia

on your ftp program set the host ip address to 192.168.1.10
username to root
password to openmedia

I'm stuck on this bit too ... I've followed Total Spoonfed noobies guide, flashed the box etc and then got as far as I could, but using Flashftp could not connect to the Openmedia box ... tried some of Max's tips below, but not sure how to change the ip address on pc lan ??

try openmedia as the password,

if that fails do the following:-
change ip address on pc lan to 192.168.1.19
chane ip on openmedia to 192.168.1.10

set both subnets to 255.255.255.0 (already should be set to this)

reset openmedia and repair lan connection on openmedia

on your ftp program set the host ip address to 192.168.1.10
username to root
password to openmedia

Any ideas guys !? Perhaps there should be an 'Idiots Guide to Total Spoonfed Newbies Guide' eh !!??

It was basically me being a total 'noob' ... !
Not having used FTP before, I wasn't aware until I read it on one post that all IP addy's had to have the same "1" or "0" number i.e. 192.168.1.xx or 192.168.0.xx. I also think my Openmedia box was not saving the IP address when I was changing it ... I tried so many different things I could be wrong on this one possibly !?
Anyway, it works !!
Cheers
