I am a noob at Wii modding only just started, I have a Wii (no shit) on 4.2e I have installed the HBC and the patched IOS36 and the latest ones to run Black Ops off of uLoader v5.1e. My question is though is it safe to update to 4.3e? everytime I connect to the internet on the Wii it asks me to update and I decline but I saw on the wiibrew site it says "optionally update to 4.3 using the official method" so if I update will my Wii still be softmodded and have the HBC or will it all be patched and useless?

you can block updates by installing priiloader Digital Kaos - Downloads - priiloader v0.7 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/priiloader-v0-7-1603/)
or you can update too 4.3 with the safe updater Digital Kaos - Downloads - 4.3b safe firmware updater (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/4-3b-safe-firmware-updater-1422/)

You would have been better upgrading to 4.3E before you softmodded it then as CK says run Priiloader to block anymore online updates?

I haven't used uLoader I've always used USB Loader GX and it works perfectly.

If you do upgrade to 4.3 then you may have to softmod it again?

What are the benefits of 4.3? Am I best to just stay at 4.2? I used the SD bannerbomb trick to softmod my Wii so I dont really know if that still works with 4.3 or if there is a new way.

To be honest all I want to do is play my backups off the hard drive since it saves carrying discs everywhere and be able to use WiiMC and that. Everything I use works currently so I dont see a need to update since online works on all of my games and that its just everytime I connect to my WiFi Nintendo asks me to update so I have to decline.

I don't think bannerbomb works with 4.3. If everything is working how you want it too then stick with 4.2 but you must run Priiloader 0.7 and set the option not to install updates from Nintendo? I'm assuming 0.7 will work on 4.2 if not get 0.6?

I hope your NAND is backed up thats the first job you do when softmodding?

there is no benefit at all being on 4.3 but some people feel the need for some reason to be on the latest system menu so that is were the safe updater comes in ,it will update a wii too 4.3 without screwing up the mod.
but priiloader is your best bet selecting block online and disc updates
and priiloader 0.7 works on all system menus

Its just a but confusing the menu items on Priiloader when it says disabled you think its disabled so it won't check for updates but you have to enable it to stop checking for updates.
