HI Im from Ireland driving a 98 mirage asti 1.3
Recently while in neutral or in idle it has started to rumble like crazy. When taking off i need to rev the shi*t out of it to get it to move or it will cut out. once driving it drives smooth, but acceleration is a joke really slow. If i have a/c on it will hardly move.
Another thing not sure if its unrelated, all the oil is dissapearing over the space of a month. Doesn't appear to be any leaks.
I can deal with the oil problem for now by topping up, but the other problem is scaring me.
There is only 60000 miles on her.
Pls pls help.

provide more info, please.
did youscan the powertrain? If so, any faultcodes.? does the transmission slip in reverse as well? Any difference between hot and cold?. How about engine compression?
Could be clutches, brake bands, converter etc.
Which oil is disappearing, engine or tranny?

Thanks for reply.
No engine light, car extremly jerky in reverse. hot and cold very slow acceleration. Engine oil disapearing.
Ive ordered a obd2 bluetooth reader to monitor engine.
Will this give me any info I can pass on??? Whats best software I should use.
Thanks

curious you have not said it smokes like hell,if it is not leaking it has to be burning it,you could check the basics first air filter and plugs, dont matter what car you have they all need regular maintenance and oil checks, worn engines use more oil,and are you using correct grade of oil?

If its burning a ton of oil maybe the plugs are oiled or the cat is blocked thats why you have to rev the crap out of it to get it going BUT as Cactikid said check all service items 1st

air filter, oil filter, oil change new plugs. Car was sitting up for 2 years.
So have a feeling its fuel related, blocked filter/injectors. Wanted to see if someone mentioned it could be fuel related before I mentioned anything. But don't think that would explain the dissapearing oil. But could explain the jerkiness/acceleration problem.

Thats because its not smokey mate. They actually had difficulty getting an emissions reading from it, its that clean.
60000 miles. Its rough as hell in neutral, has to be fuel starvation??

As you mentioned mot 6 weeks ago you prob put new gas in since then. while servicing were the injectors cleaned/pulled? Did you check pump ressure, fuel regulator etc?
What happens when it runs on injectore cleaner with proper pressure?
One comment on the oil: If oil diminishes that dramatically it is burnt(and this you will see) or it's leaking. NO OTHER OPTION
Man, this is not a puzzle. If you want others to help you then just provide all the info you have.

60000 miles. Its rough as hell in neutral, has to be fuel starvation??
OR an air leak,
OR a fault spark plug,
OR a faulty coil,
Or Idle control issue,
Or a sensor that the ECM needs to see, to set parameters..
Mate the list can go on forever,
when asked for more info, please provide as much as possible,
and as clearly as possible,

Well, Well, Well,...........
If this vehicle was sitting for 2 years than the first thing I would do is Change all the Filters..........and yes you have done, but!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can not see you mentioning any thing about the FUEL FILTER & FUEL it self............fuel being stored for 2 years is NO longer good fuel mate

Thanks everyone for your help. I dont believe in finding a solution and not posting the fix.
It was a spark plug.....yes a very simple knackered plug. Was only put in the car 4 weeks ago.
Changed the plug, and shes never driven better. Plenty of power now.
Thanks again. Hope this might help someone else.

Did they use super cheap spark plugs ? never had that before, maybe one got dropped and the gap was closed right up
