hello every one, i have a question that i would like to ask your advice on.
i have often thought that it might be possible to make a device that can locate lost keys that have immo chips in them, my idea is to make a device that is powered by batteries and has a telescopic radio antenna, the device does not have to read the immo chip, it just has to transmit a powerfull signal so that it can power on the immo chip from about 1 meter distance and then be able to reconize that a immo chip is present and indicate it so we could locate keys that are lost on the beach or in the garden etc.
does any one have any ideas as to how this could be done.
thanks for any advice or input on this matter.

there are people on this site that are very educated in their field of employment, there are some that i humbly consider to be master technicians, this is proven by alot of the post's on this site the information and knowledge that is shared is tremendous that is what makes DK the best web site in the world, judging by your reply you are obviously not one of them.
DK for ever.

from the view point of a locksmith its unthinkable such idea because the objetive of a locksmith its not to find the keys.
the purpuse its to "make the keys" and solution the problem of the costumer just imagine what will happen if all the costumer could find their keys. bye bye locksmith's

or are you a costumer? and you pretend to kill the job? :shot:

that doesn't detect the transponder it detect a transmitter which you attach to the keys.

This idea would not work on normal transponders as you would not only need to transmit a strong signal but for the transponder to be able to modulate the signal in a way that is detectable and they can only do this at short range.

when i get called out to a failed lock i allways tell the customer the truth, if it's a failed cylinder then i only replace the cylinder. if it's the mechanism then only the mechanism, my honesty with the customer has over the years earnt me a very respectable reputation and it also brings me alot of work because a customer that feals that you did not cheat or rip him off will allways recommend you to others, if you can save the customer some money they respect this, by finding their lost key's if the immo is the fixed type that cannot have a chip removed from memory you are also insuring that his car will not be stolen via the lost key's, also by finding the key's you have very little expence how ever much you charge for this service it will be clear profit. locks fail daily, key's are broken daily, people will allways need spare key's, the difference is to whom will they turn when they need a locksmith, the one with a good reputation or the rip of artist.
it's not by chance that when ever the local police are contacted by people requiring locksmith services they allways contact me first, it takes years to build up such a reputation and beleive me economicaly it's worth it.

I dont see the relation between the words I told you and the things you said to me.

but honesty its your trademark? only you posess that quality? mmmmm.

my business are the keys and to be "honest" I dont want to waste my time in search the keys of my costumers, I want to made the keys that's it, and when the costumer comes to me he has a problem so I have the solution and a good one indeed.

never in my whole carreer I made the attemp to find the keys of my costumers why? because that's not my job man.

if you think that searching the keys of your costumers you gain respect from them go ahead but dont expect that everyone have to think like you.

the name of the job is "locksmith" not "keysearcher" but as always we are free to do whathever we want with our time
and with the titles of our jobs.

so I expect this will be the end of this friendly conversation :driver:
