View Full Version : Is my DM800HD Dead? Experts needed!

Hi all,
Need some expert guidance.
My DM800HD stopped switching on. There is power going to it, fan still working and Ethernet LED's still on. But nothing on LCD and more importantly no TV
I have stripped it down and removed and cleaned everything. When I try to connect to it via DreamUp it only connects once in every 50 attempts. When it does finally connect it uploads the flash and then stalls. Status - "upload completed, waiting for acknowledge..." I then can't connect to it again for ages, it seems hit and miss.
I like to think I know my way about dreamboxes, but this has me stumped. Is it time to buy a new one, or is there some way of fixing it?
All help and advice greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using the web interface method for flashing the dm800 just to see if it is picking up an ip address of any kind? You would have to check the router to see if its picked up the ip address since your lcd is not working.

When it does connect it only seems to work with version 1.3.3.5
What is the latest version and where do I get it?

Think i would try the tried and trusted 1.3.3.4 but i know there are loads of versions out there and ive seen 1.3.3.7.
If you google you will probably find more and theres that enforcer program you could try or if you have a spare Dreambox connect with that first then swap.
Andy.

Hi mate,
Got the 2nd method to connect once, but when I tried to flash it is stuck on "calculating checksum" hit disconnect and back to square 1, not connecting.

Hi mate,
Yeah it comes on when I eventually get it connected, but it is all blurry and unreadable. I think it is defo a power issue on the board.

have u a spare power supply thats the same output ? l use an old modem feed if l flash a box . as long as the out puts the same , so if u have it connected to the router and power up with the power button pressed and release after 10 seconds can u see it on your network ? if u can type that in your internet browser and see if u can get a webpage

No it does not show up, it's like the Flash chip is corrupt!

Another good suggestion. Tuner is out and the only thing connected is the lcd. Still the same issues.

I have tried about 10 different power supplies as I have a load of DM500's. They are the exact same. Still no joy. Do you know where I can get a schematic of the mainboard?

It does not show up in my router. Have tried another power suply.

Take the top off and check the 4 big electrolytic capacitors have flat tops. If the tops are at all bellied upwards they are stuffed, I would just replace them anyway whether they look naff or not.
These boxes are just way too small to get rid of the heat that they generate and the electrolytics dry out really fast. Your symptoms are exactly what will happen when they are heading South.

I thought dreamUP was clone safe. I have always used it and it has been successful in the past. Can you suggest others and where I can get them. I will try anything now to get this box up and running. Cheers mate.

They are on eBay, you can get them from RS in fact any electronic component supplier.
Make sure of the size though because high value caps like this are sometimes pretty damn big which would normally be better but as this thing is the size of a flaming matchbox you have to stick to the original size. This also means the replacements will not last as long as you like either.
IIRC they are 10,000 uf, 25 volt but don't quote me on that. It would be better if you use 105 degree ones if you can get some to fit.
I have the value wrong there, hang on Ill take the lid off mine and look.
OK, mine has 10,000 in but that is because I didn't have any 47,000. 47,000 uf is the correct value.

Yes it is a clone and have now foud out that it is a no go , but are there anything to do?
I am stuck since i can not find the box ip. It is a friends box and have never been on my lan. And yes he made the update from dream :) , but i would like very much to get his box working again. Would it maybe help if i took it back to his lan , and then tried dreamup with his dreambox old ip?

There a number of things that can cause just the two ethernet lights to light up and nothing else
like the Lm2599 SIMPLE SWITCHER Power Converter You can try doing the wire mod see attachments
also check the L37 and c288 resistors(last picture) on the underside of the power socket
It could also be the the U6 Regulator
So as you can see there are a number of things it could be.... the easiest solution is put it on ebay as faulty you should get ?70-100 for it then buy another one or a different box.

Thanks mate, that is top drawer. You seem to know your way about the board. Are there any detailed instructions on the wire mod?
