I hope the mods leave this in this section as I believe that there are some special needs for automotive users as some of the software used has "features" that upset a lot of anti-virus software.

With so many anti-virus products out there and its so easy to just carry on using what you have got. At the moment I am using Avast and am getting fed up of it constantly finding problems that dont really exist.

My question is what is the best anti virus software that wont keep getting upset with some of the software that has been available over the years on this site?

It would be interesting to hear why any products that are suggested should be chosen.

i think the best way is to have all "cracked" softwares on a machine that does not connect to the internet, then Anti Virus is not required.

thats what i am in the process of doing at the moment..

I think that the best antivirus is no antivirus. I did not use that kind a software and yet I am not facing an attack more often than any one else. There is some common good sense advice to be followed: Deactivate the autorun, never run some unknown executable software, never click a link from an unknown email, etc. It happened also to me to be infected even with this measures but I noticed that some thing strange is happened in my computer and I try to get rid of the virus and in the most of the cases I managed to do it. You can live without antivirus and I think that the life will be easier.

i would not take a machine online without AV..

i have just had to have machine sorted after lending it to my son "for 1 day" it picked up virus that infected EVERYTHING
it was really nasty, and very hard to remove...........:pcguru:

the guy who sorted it thinks that whilst my boy was on youtube he clicked on a link and somehow it ran a script and enbedded itself very deep...

it was my diagnostics machine toooooo..:viking:

it even enbedded itself in other partitions.......

For other cases exist windows kit and image makers. You must admit that is good to do a fresh install from time to time, not very often I suppose. My kids has their own computer which has some probls with viruses. For now there is the windows 7 own antivirus for that computer but I did not use their computer with my applications.
