I currently have $ky (fixed minidish) and a Spiderbox (motorised) and between them I am happy with the functionality of the boxes and the variety of things to watch. However, I am wondering if I (with zero Linux experience and only average computer knowledge) could swap both of my current boxes for a VU+ Duo/Ultimo or equivalent Dreambox in order to get the same/better functionality? I have trawled various forums and have an idea of what is possible but I?d like clarification.

Can the VU+/Dreambox do the following:

Have a reliable EPG (like $ky/Freesat/Freeview)?
Remote record (like $ky+)? Is there an Android app for that?
Have satellite and Freeview tuners in the same box?
Reliable and simple PVR operation like $ky+/Freeview+? (Switch on from standby, move to correct satellite (if necessary), accurately record, return to standby.)
Have series link?
Use official cards?

I might just be dreaming of my perfect box but if ?yes? to the above, will all this be too much for a novice who has no idea about programming Linux?

Yes, only thing is there is not an app likes Sky's if your out,
and want to record something.
There is a way to do it though if, just a bit more
to it.
You will be able to get this up and running
within an hour m8, trust me :-)

Thanks for the confirmation. I'll need to save up first but this sounds like a go-er. :tee:
