Hi everyone. We have bought my son a wifi R4i card with an 8gb sdhc memory card with preloaded games. We were shown it working before we paid for it but after an hour of my son playing with it on his DSi it came up with this message.

An error has occurred.
Press and hold the POWER
Button to turn the system off.
Please refer to the Nintendo DSi
Operations Manual for details.

Now in all fairness he did remove the R4i card and forgot to turn the power off but surely it shouldn't break that easily? I have noticed that the icon for it on the DSi has changed from spongebob squarepants to an animated woman's face and says miami nights 3DS. If I put the memory card into the computer it shows all the games there and if I put the R4i card into my ds lite it says I need to upgrade my ds lite.

I have followed the web link on the R4i card to try and download the kernels and firmware needed but I have no idea what I'm doing regarding this and don't know how to format sd cards so don't know if I've done it right but nevertheless it has made no difference and hasn't resolved the problem. I'm pretty miffed that we have paid a lot of money out for an hour's play. I have also encountered this message on a genuine game before that wouldn't play on my son's DSi but does play on my DS lite. If anyone can give me any help it would be gratefully recieved and greatly appreciated.

the fact that you have had a problem with a genuine card in your dsi, suggests to me that youre dsi may have a contact problem.
basically the flashcards are slightly diffrent mould from genuine cards and can push the contaxcts back too far.
this means you start to get problems even with genuine cards.

what i would do is start again on a smaller sd card and reload firmware, games and see if you can get it to work on your dslite first.

what is the web address on the card and do you havew a spare microsd card you could use. ( to save messing about with the new one) just till we get the card working?

The problem with the genuine card happened ages ago well before I bought the r4 card. Could this still be the problem?

yep, could be,
maybe just dirty cotacts.
the console should always read genuine cards.

You can format the TF card, and re-install the kernel. If still can't solve the problem, the r4i card may be broken. Contact the reseller for change.
