Hi Guys,

A friend of mine bought an LG TV a while back and doesn't know where it originally comes from. He is worried about updating the firmware over the internet in case it fell off the back of a lorry . Would this be safe to do or should he just avoid it?

Without updating the firmware he cannot use the internet facilities on the TV

So you're fairly certain that LG can't trace that this TV has updated it firmware?

Is it possible to download the firmware to USB and then upload it? This should eliminate all worries

How to activate your USB player on your LG without firmware upgrade/downgrade | AVForums.com - UK Online (http://www.avforums.com/forums/lg-forum/1191680-how-activate-your-usb-player-your-lg-without-firmware-upgrade-downgrade.html)

theres a lot of info/links on there , its easy to upgrade, downgrade ad a media player to the tvs ect

Even mobile phones can be updated when reported lost/stolen. There's no way LG will monitor the serial numbers & check them off against a list that doesn't exist.

Hell, all controlling Apple don't even bother tracking phones to that level.
