Media player

I am about to built a htpc media player but wondered the best media os ? I am putting windows 7 on was wondering if xbmc was better then the Microsoft one ? or are they the same ?

In my experience, XMBC looks prettier than Windows Media Centre, but takes a lot of faffing about to get it to work just right and continued faffing to keep it working right... For ease of use & integration, MCE is the better choice in my opinion.. I suppose you can always try xbmc though... Another one to consider and look into is called "Media Portal" .. I liked that one too, but again, decided to use MCE myself, just cause it was easier to maintain and use...

Thanks I am just waiting for my case but wanted an opinion on what one to use. I have had a quick look on the mce 1 on my laptop and want to get it to work with vlc so I know I have to learn how to use it but don't want to learn 3 times ha. Unless they are all pretty much the same to use ?
