I'd be grateful for help with a major problem,my computer didn't boot up,tried safemode but apart from clicking on it,it wouldn't load via that, basically it kept me out which left me reinstall from the disc supplied. Some very important files and programs went but does anyone know of freeware software that might be able to help recover.Has to be freeware,I can't work through disability so money is very short, that plus being on Saturday night is why I didn't call a computer shop for advice. Thanks:beheaded:

If you haven't already tried to reinstall from the disk supplied. Then there are ways to boot from a live CD and copy off your important file to a USB stick or other location. I favor Ubuntu Linux but it can be done in a Windows way too. However if you have already tried to reinstall windows then you may have caused yourself problems as the install may have copied files over the ones you are trying to recover.
Here (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download) is where you can get the Ubuntu live CD image. Just download it, burn it to CD, and boot from it. When it asks you if you want to install it choose not to, it will then boot to a desktop and you will find your hard drive listed in the places menu at the top of the screen. You can then copy any files you want to somewhere safe. Ubuntu is free software.
I am sure someone will post a windows solution that will do the same.

There was a thread around here somewhere with a similar problem & lots of suggested programs to recover lost data.

One of them was Disk Digger (http://diskdigger.org/)

iCare Data Recovery. Get it on BTJunkie. Gives you a list of sectors and files to recover. Takes a while though, leave your comp. on till it's done.
