Hello, i wanted to know would i be able to use Sky+ without a Sky subscription?

I have a fully working sky dish, but i'm unsure as to if i will be able to use the Sky+ as you would normally like series record, etc.

Thanks,

Sam.

you need a valid subscription to be able to use the sky + functions, anything that you have recorded to the hdd...you won't be able to view if you have no valid subscription.

I have never had Sky, just got the dish for my dreambox. So i will not be able to record on the Sky+ box without a Sky subscription?

I have put a HDD inside my DM but it's not the same, i cannot do things like series record, i cannot watch one thing while recording another, i cannor set it to start recording at x time and end at x time, a bit frustrating tbh.

I might get the Tivo from Virgin media as im already subscribed with them.

you need a twin tuner receiver in order to record more than one programe at a time or record one while watching another.

Will the FTV card allow you to record & play back on a Sky+ box?

This IS possible.

Two ways to do it.

You could get an Amstrad PVR2 box and JTAG into it with custom firmware (Google is your friend). But - this leaves you with a pretty ancient box (no HD or latest EPG etc) and is pretty tricky to do properly.

A much easier and better solution is to get an old blue sky card off ebay etc. Most of these did not get the sky+ entitlements switched off when Sky switched over to the white cards, and Sky have stopped updating them. If you are unlucky and get a card that doesn't work, no problem, just buy another that does (they are only a few ? each).

Once this card is in you will be able to record and use live pause, planner etc. etc. on all FTA channels. FTV channels won't be accessible, but there are only a few of these, so you could keep a white Sky card for the occasions on which you want to view these (can't record though).

I hope this helps :)

No FTV card won't do the job
