aparantley, it could be a tuner fault. try taking the tuner off and turning on the box. i read somewhere before that it sorted it out for someone. tuner maybe loose or something
worth a try.

It was posted here on a few threads alom.
The tuner is probably unseated, remove it then boot up with it removed. If it boots, turn off and reseat the tuner.
The ticking noise is the fan bearings, use wd40 or similar to lubricate the fan, this will sort it. The ticking will also occur if the tuner is slightly loose as it will lean against the fan.

The tuner pulls out to one side. You need to remove all the screws on the back plate, including the screwlocks at the DVI connector.
In German but it will show you how:

No return the tuner to it's socket, spray the fan, (if you have WD40 or similar) and try another PSU, (once again if you have access to another one.
Even a DM500 PSU will do, the ampage differs but it will be fine. Although just looked back and you have tried that also.
I can almost guarantee by the symptoms that it is the tuner, but check for leaking capacitors on the board also.

i think satsmo's right...
found this on another place....it could be broken diode by the power plug
http://i51.tinypic.com/2n7h8oh.jpg
the last thing would be to get it checked out to see where the power is stopping at

Ive tried different psu and adapters i have two dm800 so i used the psu from the one that is working, still no luck removed and put back the tuner the noise is coming from where the power goes into as i disconected the fan and removed tuner to see what i could hear, also i noticed when i used the PSU fro my other box the green light on the adapter was intermittantly flashing whereas on the bix that works its solid green, any ideas? Maybe a faulty power connector thingymibob on the dreambox?

Did you buy it in the UK or import it from China. Is it still under warranty?
Sounds like I said above but you may need to send it back for repair or if not under warranty try bringing it to an electrical repair shop, it is a minor fault, (if not tuner related) and shouldn't cost too much to repair.

If it's clicking then it's definitely a short or burnt out component, any chance of some decent pictures from around the area where the PSU plugs into the box, one other thing worth trying is holding down the PSU socket to see if it's the actual socket on the DM that's loose.

only you candecide if its too much mate. how much do you want your box back??
is ?30 too much to pay to get it back up and running again?
if my box died and someone said they'd get it back sorted for ?30....i would be well happy :)
