forward whatever port on whatever emulator you use for info on your router to your server, then you can access it from outside your network
be sure to password protect it :)

it's simply port forwarding you have to do
on router
port 21 for ftp
port 22 for ssh
port 23 for telnet
for example if you are using CCcam, you can edit your CCcam.cfg either way
also dont forget to allow incoming connections to your server
Example:
to access your CCcam info default port from outside your lan
forward port 16001 on your router to your server
to connect to it:
your.dns.address:16001and you will get a login box for username and password so be sure to change the default username/password in CCcam.cfg
maybe this thread shoud be moved to the pc/network section as its not cs or satellite related ;)

you could use Teamviewer to access ubuntu from another location, just set it up to allow you only to connect and set a good password
TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet (http://www.teamviewer.com)
or you could open port 22 and use putty to ssh to it
PuTTY: a free telnet/ssh client (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/%7Esgtatham/putty/)
and to edit your CCcam.cfg from ssh log in as root and enter this command
vi /var/etc/CCcam.cfg
and here is a bit of info on using the vi editor
have a read and try it, quite simple to do really :)

one last quwestion please sir .as you can read i aint that good on pc s lol ..
anyway say i open port 21 or 22 .. on router ..does this have to be linked with the same static ip as the ubuntu server m8 ..if you know what i mean ,
cause the port is very secure i was thinking ..do i just open a port and lable it say ssh of ftp ..on router as i application share labeled normally before opening ports i think its that way ..
many many thanks for help .
i would prob use just for checking and adding m8 ..thanks
