Welcome to the forum.
Just have a read through the 4.3 mod threads.

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/4-3-mod-157379/
Or just for softmodding you can try the new approach LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) then for fixing up the USB Loaders there is http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/wii-usb-hd-loader-34586/

Ive just updated my Wii from to an official version of 4.3e(Nintendo update), will this mod method be ok to use? I've read on a few forums never update from Ninty as some softmods can brick your Wii. Got the HBC installed, but going no further yet!

Well if you have HBC installed to have softmodded your Wii, I hope you've done a NAND backup.
All you need to do now is install PriiLoader 0.7 so you can block online and disc updates and a few other tweaks. Then you need to install your USB Loaders which ever one you want to choose, I would recommend USB Loader GX.

Hi I am reading this thread with interest and I must say you guys on this forum really know your stuff!
I am a stereotypical female and I have not got a clue about this stuff. I have only just learnt the difference between a USB thingy and a sd card and thought Fat 32 was a large clothes size!
Some how (I do not know how) I have installed Homebrew on my 4.3e Wii using the letterbomb and have made a backup. I think I need to install PriiLoader 0.7 and USB Loader GX.
Is there an idiots guide how to do this somewhere? Can I format my Wii and startagain. Where is the priiloader and USB loader softwhere? What files should I have on my SD card I have formatted it now and saved my back up to the PC.
I would really appreciate one of you clever people to walk me through it.
Please help!

At least you've done a NAND backup and I hope you've saved the [bootmii] folder with files and the nand.bin and keys.bin of the root of the SD card somewhere very safe?
Well you can dowload PriiLoader 0.7 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/priiloader-v0-7-1603/) of here. When you have PriiLoader running you need to block online and disc updates plus you can do other tweaks as listed in the download page.
You can download Usb loader gx 2.3 r1128 and d2x v7 with MMM 13.4 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/usbloader-gx-2-3-r1128-d2x-v7-mmm-13-4-1978/) of here or you can Google USB Loader GX and downloaded the installation file of the original site. USB Loader GX (http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/) along with the newer forwarder channel so you can operate it from the Wii menu.
What size it your SD card?
Now with any USB Loader you need to install cIOS249 with MMM as I've posted above so you could download USBLoader_GX_V2_3_AllinOnePackage_IOS249.zip of the site above. Now the Readme.txt in that zip it says:
To use the channel version of the loader or the forwarder channel it is required that you install IOS58 on your Wii. Now a 4.3 Wii are supposed to have this installed, to check which IOS's you have installed use sysCheck (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/syscheck-v2-1-0-beta-11-1918/)
While you are installing the wads with MMM I would advise you to install the d2x v7 wads in the link above.
The next this to do is find a suitable external USB hard drive to store your games onto.
Oh never format your Wii.
I've tried to make this as simple as possible but if you have any problem post them in here first rather than bricking your Wii. Sorry if I've missed something but HH or ck-ok will be around to add their comments.
Oh I forgot to mension there is a sticky on here that talks about Wii USB Loader (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/wii-usb-hd-loader-34586/)

It's only the files that have changed everything else is still very relevant especially the order things are done in. Even with the files in the tut you will still be able to do a safe and successful softmod, it will just need a file update to run the newer games

Thanks so much for all your replies so far! Been a bit sickie so not feeling up to much. Going to try this weekend.
I have a 2GB SD card and have used the windows formatter so its blank now.
Had a look at my back up which I saved to my pc and I don't think I have all the correct files. I have the following:
bootmii folder
private folder
credits.txt
license.txt
readme-bootmil.txt
installer.log
nand.bin
readme-hbc.txt
boot.elf
keys.bin
readme.txt
Is that ok I don't want to start anything if I am not backed up ?
So to start I just need to put priiloader on my SD card.? Thanks for your time.

If you use the tut from ck then you need to put "syscheck" into the apps folder on your sd (you can find it in the downloads section) then download modmii and run it on the pc and select update softmod, you will then be prompted for the file syscheck creates after you run it on the wii. Or you could just run modmii (it's in the downloads section) and select "w" which is the full softmod and tut which will download elk the latest files and write you a tut

this is a must Digital Kaos - Downloads - Full Cios wad pack (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/full-cios-wad-pack-1949/)
just about everything else you can update via the wii such as your usb loaders and priiloder i think by entering there settings and auto updating.

Is that ok I don't want to start anything if I am not backed up ?
So to start I just need to put priiloader on my SD card.?
What version is your Wii?
So you've already softmodded your Wii and done a NAND backup.
Those look like the softmod files and folders. You need to save the [bootmii] folder with its files along with nand.bin and keys.bin to a VERY safe place just in case you need to do a NAND restore.
You can then format the SD card FAT32 again and add an apps folder so you can add various apps you want to use. Put the PriLoader folder and the 3 files into the apps folder and run it from HBC.
You don't say if your going to use USB Loaders?

I have version 4.3e.
So I format my SD card, then make a new folder called apps.
Then put priloader in apps
Then put 3 files in apps. (which ones)
Then run from HBC
I want to use the USB loaders, but will look at that bit once priloader is sorted as don't want to brick anything!

There are 3 files in the priiloader folder boot.dol which runs the app, icon.png is the picture that shows in HBC, Meta.xml it the data file for priiloader.
Put the whole priiloader folder with the 3 files into the apps folder.

When PriiLoader install starts it says at the top it uses IOS58 do a sysCheck (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/syscheck-v2-1-0-beta-11-1918/) to see if thats installed.

No the only thing in the root is the apps folder.
in the apps folder is a prilloaderv0.7 plus hacks folder
in that is a priloaderv0.7 plus hack folder
in that is a priloader folder
in that is boot.dol, hacks.ini, icon.png and meta.xml files

The apps folder must all be in lowercase else it won't read it.
It doesn't matter what the sub folder name is HBC just links to all boot.dol's in each sub folder. The icon.png is just the picture for that app that shows in HBC.

Formatting an SD card everytime is unecessary just delete all files and folders providing its FAT32.
You need to install the wads before any USB Loader will run. If you try to run USB Loader GX it will say needs cIOS222, cIOS249 or cIOS250. For any USB Loader to work you need to install cIOS249.

If you click the Homebrew channel on the Wii menu you should see all the apps listed in the apps sub folders. If you only see the bubbles screen then it isn't reading the SD card. If you've formatted the card FAT32 many times try another card as it could have gone faulty.
Each app must be in its own sub folder in the apps folder.
If you see the apps listed and you unplug the SD card it goes back to the bubbles until you insert it again. If your on 4.3 then SDHC cards are cheap enough buy a 4GB one.

forget about syscheck.
make sure you make a folder on your pc put
nand.bin/keys.bin and bootmii folder in it and keep it safe.

you should already have a usbloadergx channel on the main menu screen if you start that and enter the loaders menu you can auto update the loader to the newest version available.
your wii should now be able to play backups.
then post again for cios update.

You can download USB Loader GX 2.3 (http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/downloads) along with the forwarder channel if you don't have that on the Wii menu.
CFG USB Loader v70 (http://code.google.com/p/cfg-loader/downloads/list) plus CFG USB Loader Forwarder Channel (http://gwht.wikidot.com/forwarder)
WiiFlow (http://www.wiiflowiki.com/Wiiflow) plus the Forwarder Channel.
Each USB Loader has different features and layouts try all 3 so you can decided which one is the best for your needs. In my opinion USB Loader GX is the best as it loads more problem games and more there are more cracks for this one.
After you've added all 3 channels to the Wii menu and tried them all out you can remove any channel you don't want in the Wii Channels options just erase them.
Each USB Loader has its own updater in settings or About.

I do have usbloadergx on the main menu. When I press start it says waiting for your slow usb device and counts to 30 then states
no usb device found do you want to retry for 30 seconds?
and I have the options cios249 or cios222 or back to main menu.
What should I do now?
At the moment I have no usb device plugged in. I do have a 1gb USB stick should I format to fat 32 and use this?

you will not a fit a wii game on a 1gb usb stick (except paper mario) and usb loader gx will not start unless you have a usb device plugged in as it says.
What do you want to do now???? if you want to play backups from a hard drive you will need to get hold of an external hard drive preferably with it's own power cable and not usb powered. I think one of the car racing games also drops below 1gb once converted to wbfs but I can 't remember which one

How many threads have you read on here CRITCHK?
As CK and myself are saying you won't get any games on a 1GB USB stick. Depending on what you using to add a game to the stick the original file size is about 4.5GB so it won't go on a 1GB stick. If you use WBFS Manager then that compressed of remove unecessary parts of the file so it will be a fraction of that size.
Get yourself a compatible mains powered external USB HDD.

CK's video has just explained how to update GX to a newer version if avaliable. Now these inbuilt updates only update the files in the apps\usbloader_gx folder thats all.
To add an original game disc to your HDD insert the disc and click the + button on the bottom left and follow the screen prompts.
All the USB Loader update (WiiFlow you click on the About button bottom left) in the same way.

Well I don't know whats wrong with your system as you've tried loads of different options to try and get this working.
I would try USB Loader GX Easy installer (for Windows) (http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/downloads) the second one in the list. Its an exe that you run from Windows with the SD plugged in so it can write files to it.
First I would delete to apps\usbloader_gx folder and delete the SD:\config folder thats where it stores all the game pictures and settings.
It doesn't matter which version is installed because you can do an update in the USB Loader GX settings which will update to 2.3. After the update close USB Loader GX then start it up again and reload all your game pictures, you can click on Credits in the settings to see which version you're currently running.

I haven't really been following this thread but you have said the wii recognizes the hdd. How do you know this, also, if you have formatted the hdd to fat 32 and are running old version of gx (you say it didn't update) it may not read the drive as I think the older versions only read wbfs. The wii needs to be connected to the internet to use the update function in gx.

Hi guys,
I bought a wii this week, and I've been reading alot about softmodding my wii, I'm convinced I've done everything the right way, but I'm having a problem:
I'm unable to "detect" my USB hard drive. It's listed as compatible (Iomega 500GB) and I've tryed both in WBFS and Fat32. I'm moving the game to the HD with wifi backup manager.
The HD as 3 partitions. The two first ones are NTFS and I have My stuff there, I created a 32gb partition (due to fat 32 size limit) at the end of the HD. Can this be the problem? Does the HD as to be exclusive to wii?
Help needed, thanks.

The HD as 3 partitions. The two first ones are NTFS and I have My stuff there, I created a 32gb partition (due to fat 32 size limit) at the end of the HD.
I believe the first partition has to have the Wii games on it.
32GB isn't going to be big enough as you will only get 6 games on it.
If you can't partition your 500GB drive to at least 150GB for the Wii games then consider getting a bigger mains powered drive. My first drive was 120GB which held 65 games I've since bought 1TB FreeAgent? GoFlex? Desk External Hard Drive (http://www.maplin.co.uk/1tb-freeagent-goflex-desk-external-drive-396163) which is formatted WBFS and its totally for the Wii.

You can use a forwarder as a user asked about this on here and I uploaded mine for him but I can't find that thread now as the search facility is very poor on here.
You can download the Forwarder Channel (http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/downloads) and install the wad with MMM. If thats the only USB Loader you're using then ok as I have the CFG Loader and WiiFlow channels on mine. I use USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder.wad if you want to Google for that and download it. 99% of games run with 249 there is only MW3 that uses 250 as far as I know.
Also my HDD says I have 2 games and when I select the game on the menu it makes the noise of the game, but when I try to load its still coming up with a black screen.
I'm not sure why it jumps back with a black screen. You only have 2 games on the drive at the moment what are their names?
I would assume that its using the default IOS249 for the game but if you click on the game which shows the game disc spining click on Settings and click along to IOS and see which number that game is using. If its not 249 click on it and type in 249 and save. 99% of games use 249 apart from MW3 which uses 250 as far as I know.

I've found the USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/usb-loader-gx-loads-but-wii-drive-turns-blue-locks-up-240111/index2.html) attachment the one I use.

What do I change to 249.
I tried going in settings in the game then gameload then selcting game iso is says use global so I changed to 249. Is this correct or am I looking in the wrong place. Still did not work just black screen.
How long should the game take to load?
Should I try another loader?

Yes IOS249 is the default IOS.
When PriiLoader install starts it says at the top it uses IOS58 do a sysCheck (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/syscheck-v2-1-0-beta-11-1918/) to see if thats installed.
Now a 4.3 Wii are supposed to have this installed, to check which IOS's you have installed use sysCheck (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/syscheck-v2-1-0-beta-11-1918/)
I've mensioned doing a sysCheck a couple of times but I've never seen the report. Please do one and post the report so we can see which IOS's you system is using?

Sorry keith but I'm going to jump in here a you two are running round in circles.....what base did you install into ios 249.... It is a very basic mistake to forget that the cios number is irrelevant it is just a carrier for the base ios that actually runs the game. The base ios you are looking for to run almost all games is 56 all the call of duty games use a base of 57. So on that note I ask again what cios number have you installed a base of 56 into. If you don't know post a syscheck and I'll tell you. Alternatively you could use the d2x cios pack that I uploaded as it uses the bases in most common cios numbers that everybody goes by.

Thanks all for your help you have been brilliant with a dummy like me.
Now I was wondering. Say I had Toy Story Mania and the disk was dodgy and would not always play. Is there a way to download the game to my HDD rather then use the physical disk to install?

"Him", its her you men never listen!!!
PMSL we do listen it's just that we have short term memory problems which is why we supposedly can't multitask..Or maybe that's just selective hearing lol...Glad you have it working now but just remember if you use a cios installer and not pre made wads then you really need to know a bit about the cios/ios rules and bases that are used..Best thing to do is what you have now done and use one of the tried and tested packs that more experienced users upload. We have usually put in good bit of ground work to try and ensure they as newbie friendly as we can make them.

as long as it loads sometimes you can rip to hdd using usbloader gx just put the toystory disk in the wii and in the bottom left corner of the main menu screen on gx you will see a "+" press it and that will rip the disk to the hdd for you converting it as it goes..

I'm set to recieve messages but if your not in my contacts list put a tick in the box
Well I added to the bottom of the message.
Now I see you haven't clicked the option to recieve massages from users until you do this on the User CP on the left of the bar near the top you won't be able to reply to this message.
There is a box below the reply that says Send message to users even if they are not on your contact list tick it?
Your options are currently set to accept private messages only from your contacts. If you send a message to a user not on your contact list, they will not be able to reply to you. Send message to users even if they are not on your contact list.
Put a tick in that box.

Hi all, I thought I had successfully installed homebrew/bootmi / iso 236 / priloader / usb loader gx/dx wads etc as I had dk country/pokepark working on an 8gb usb stick (first time attempting a softmod). At that time I recorded a syscheck. After playing pokepark for a morning then dk it went black screen just after gx checks the usb. It started working again after a reset then refused completely. I reformatted the usb/reinstalled games(wfbs) to no avail. Today I have run a syscheck again, after removing the sd card to pc pokepark is running but dk still the same. Can you tell from todays syscheck to see if I have done everything right so far please. BTW, when I check priloader in MMM, it says no hacks installed? We haven't accepted any updates at all. Thankyou .

dk should work from these cios
Working cIOS
?IOS222 (Hermes v4 38 base)
?IOS223 (Hermes v4 37+38 base)
?IOS249 (rev 14, 17, 19, 20)
?d2x v6 or higher-base 56 (recommended)
you should be able to play it so it sounds like a usb compatabilty problem.
you do need to install ios222/223 with this Digital Kaos - Downloads - hermes custom ios 222/223 installer (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/hermes-custom-ios-222-223-installer-1236/)
make sure the usb is in the correct port

Right, 222 then 223 installed to default of ios 38. Neither game worked. Reformatted and error checked usb stick, no faults. Reinstalled DK only to drive, now working fine. Save game still there so I assume that is saved on wii nand. Got to be usb stick then. I have an HD, but need to create a seperate partition first as need to keep data on it. I'll let you know how it works out, but thanks for the info all.

Almost all loaders will launch games from fat 32 or ntfs. Just use wii backup manager to install the games. (uloader will only read wbfs)

the installation of 222/223 wasn't meant to get dk working but will be needed to play other games.
as h-h says just format the hd to fat32

Guys, I now have all games on hard drive, fat32 installed with wiibackup manager. Still, pokepark gives black screen, as does disney universe, house of the dead okill, yugioh wbeu. The other 8 games work fine-last story,dk country, mario galaxy/party9/sonic winter games, res evil 4,monopoly,lego star wars 3 clone. Could it be the region? Should I try another loader - does it just go on sd card without affecting usb gx? Or, are there setting on gx I could change for the none working games to try?

pokepark and disney universe both run from ios 249 [57] but I will say disney is very hit and miss. I've had to reinstall it twice as it's stopped working for no reason. Another thing with disney is that it cannot be transfered as .wbfs file. I have found it must be loaded onto the drive from an iso or it just doesn't work.
Edit that is a typo should read 249[56] not [57]

It sounds like you are not using the version of gx that loads 249 as default, there are currently 3 versions of gx. 249, 250 and another that launches from 245 I think it is, but the bases for each of the loaders default are 56, 57 and 38

Someone say IDIOTS guide? lol right here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/wanna-play-some1-elses-games-ur-usb-mod-your-wii-made-simple-313590/
