Convert mini DV tapes onto DVD disc

Hi guys, anyone got any advice for a relative novice. I have a mini camcorder that uses mini DV tapes. I want to put these onto DVD discs so I can play back on a normal DVD player. what programme will I need on my computer to be able to do this, I have DVD burner on my computer but not sure how to start the conversion if it is at all possible ? ALL MiniDV tape based camcorders record in DV (standard definition) or HDV (high definition) formats. To get the digital video from the miniDV tape to your computer, you need to connect the DV port (not USB) of the camcorder to the firewire port (not USB) of the computer. The video editor will Import the video - when the camcorder is in "Play" or "VCR" mode.

To get the video into avi or wmv or mov format, the video editor will have an export or Save As... function that renders the video to that selected file type and compression.
