Victorian plans to link the uk and ireland have been found. The plans were to include an underground tunnel or enclosure on which a train system would run. It makes you wonder how relations between the two countries would have been if it ever came to fruition.

BBC News - Scotland-Ireland undersea rail link plan 'a surprise' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-15187431)

Would have been a serious feat of engineering.

As for relations, the chunnel certainly brought the UK closer to mainland europe.........

I'd much prefered a tunnel between Ireland and the UK than one between UK and France.. That tunnel needs blowing up and pishing off to the bin of history..
