Does anyone know if i could use this burner with a laptop , i hope so as otherwise it means buying a desktop pc which ive been putting off for like ever and just getting by with laptops.Also if i could use it with a laptop would it just be a simple case of a sata to usb cable and a molex to power the drive , as u can see im quiet confused.

yes you can use the drive with a laptop. Here is a link to u usb to sata. Its not the cheapest so have another look but it gives you and idea what to do and use
