Hi Smoggy;
was able to 'break' the Admin pword on my Latitude D630
now it wants a HD password. I really want to 'wipe' the HD but even tho some messing about will get me past that rqmt
and into the Setup, it still will not accept my 'wipe' disk. So
I am wondering IF I had a HD pword could I get onto that drive and clean it off? OR, better still, can I wipe the HD without getting past the HD pword?
As you can tell - I know nothing and am thankfull for any help.

last time I answered your post http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f36/dell-latitude-d630-admin-password-66586/index97.html#post1414548
you did not acknowledge it which I'll overlook this time :smokin:
the HDD should give a tag something like XXXXXXXXXXX-595B
post it for your password

Smoggy, many thanks for not cutting me off !!!
I used the 2nd key you supplied and it worked perfectly - thanks again.
Now, and I'm almost afraid to ask - when I get thru to the HD, a logo comes on the screen and gives me the option of several ways to get on wi-fi, but they're all internal to the org. that had this laptop. It just stays there unless I shut down. Is there anyway I can circumvent this? I cannot get the system to recognize any disk or sticks which would give me the chance of wiping the HD or reformatting.

have you tried setting BIOS to boot from CD and trying from a windows boot disk or something similar
or ry to format it in another PC
maybe you would be better starting a new thread in the PC Problems forum where more people will see your post

Many thanks Smoggy, I did get around this problem with an old (VERY OLD) PC Tools cd that I had. I was able to wipe the HD and reformat it. This cd is a great tool and I wish I could understand ALL of the instructions.
Bye now and Thanks Again for your help.

Many TIA for this forum! A good friends son decided to lock his dear ole dad out of his laptop. I have been given the task of unlocking the devil. Had he simply put a passwd on the HDD I could get by with no help. Alas the bios is another story as I couldn't find an old fashioned jumper reset... :( Your help would be most appreciated! #6y1b0c1-595b express 15118737265 Thanks, BeCre8tive

Hello to all! After hearing many good things in regards to this site & it's members I've decided to reach out for outside help. I purchased this Dell Inspiron 9400 for my son a few weeks ago who has just started college. I "mistakenly" placed a bios admin password on it after doing a clean install of windows, just simply to protect it against any alterations that a another student may make, to "improve things". LOL* He's home now for the holiday weekend & I decided to make a few tweaks to the bios & yes...I'VE FORGOTTEN MY OWN PASSWORD!!! I have tried for the past 3 days to remember what I entered, to no avail! I have all the previous owner info here & have contacted Dell, but can receive no help til tomorrow & will cost me 50.00$ PLUS! ANY help would be SO MUCH APPRECIATED!!!! The service tag number is:24KD0D1 The service code is:4629628693
Thanks in advance for ANY assistance,
