Willem and 29F400
Right I have decided to try and see if I can learn the black art of soldering and eeprom flashing using my Willlem Enhanced and my soldering station. This is mostly an experiemtn to see if I can manage to do it right before I invest in some better equipment.

So I bought some empty AMD 29F400BB 70ns chips, some sockets and a TSOP48 adapter for the Willem.

I soldered one of the sockets onto the TSOP48 adapter (comes without a socket). As far as I can see contact are good - but I'm having problems both reading and writing in the Willem :stoned:

I use version ja of the eeprom3, my Willem is a Willem Enhanced which is powered from the USB. Ok, so I select AM29F400 in the device list and I setup the jumpers accordingly. Clickinjg read and it looks like it reads fine, the buffer reads 00 00 00 00 00 which I believe is fine when reading an empty chip.
Then I load an ori into the buffer to try and write it to the chip - but then I get the following error: ERROR at 0x00000 Chip = 0x00 buffer= 0xc3 which I guess is because it cannot write the first byte to the chip http://www.chiptuners.org/forums/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

Now what to do - has anybody had any success with writing 29F400 with Willem and TSOP48 adapter?

29F400 TSOP48 package? never heard any of a non-ZIF socket for this package type. If you bought the right 'TSOP48 adapter must-be-for-Willem' (MCUmall) it should be ready to put a chip in to work. just feel that some thing is mixed up, your clear photo may help to find the cause.

If it is adapter for Willem it should work. In Test H/W enable all signals in ZIF socket and measure with multimeter. Also test with multimeter connection between chip and adapter. If OK, You should looking for some mistake in software settings or jumper settings.

You have to erase chip before writting, try this way.

I'm pretty sure you can not do this flash with Willem.

Why You think so? Willem with adapter do the job.

Power the programmer with AC/DC adaptor 12-15 V ,Put the 29f in the socet and read signature,if it is OK then all mast be ok.Upload some photos of your programmer and adapter.

hello,

my experience with the willem + psop 44 adapter for the 29f400 if you can read the id chip it's ok you can read , virgin and program the 29f 400

if you can't read the id chip , clean the pin on the 29f400 and try again .
when the pin are clean you can read the id and every things is ok .

it's Bricolo on the forum who give to me this information
