I have mondeo 2L TDCI
The problem i have is intermittent the engine at times sounds ok sometimes like a bag of spanners
it starts everytime
it runs well in the main
it has problems Jerking around when i am at the 50-60 mph mark seems like fuel problem but it is ok when i am doing 70mph or over
It has no engine management warning lights that come on at all
it emits white smoke at times which turms black at heavy revs as do most diesels
injector problem it seems to be but i am wondering should the engine management light not appear??
any ideas ??

would you side with a recode then rather than the actual injectors ?
would that give me quite loud kniocking sometimes ?

could be pressure rel valve sticking.
You need some live readings, if your ecu see's a value (from a sensor) that is not outside of its parameters, then your mil wont be turned on (in most circumstances, bit more involved than this but will do for an explanation!!!)

Don't think injector codes or weak ones bring light on , lm sure there will be a fault code even without light , l would get the ecu read myself

"it has problems Jerking around when i am at the 50-60 mph"
try disconnecting the MAF... it prevents the ECU trying to operate the EGR. Check for vacuum leaks..turbo and egr require it.
PS it shouldn't smoke, white... missfire, black ...missfuel

sorry i am stupid what is "maf"
had it on scanner today
cant remember the exact code but guy said it was a fault with the main relay or the open circuit
which he said could be causing problems with injectors is this true?? it was the only fault code he got
anyone know where the main relay is i will change it

it was a bosch one that is all i know but if i remember rightly the code was 1631 although i cant be 100% and he is not there now till monday to verify
he said scanner was not his usual one which was much better he also said problem was easily fixed although i had to rebook it in for another day to get it done
he looked at my injectors and also said the tolerances on one was almost 6 when it should be under 3 ???
but he also said that the relay problem could cause this ?????
he also stated that if relay is fixed it may open another fault
thanks for the help guys

also to add to last post i bought a caravan last week and i was up there today having a mess around i plugged the 12v electrics into the car
it was fine using just the battery but when i put the engine on every couple of seconds it dropped power for a split second continuosly
hopefully that drop in power is whats causing the injector problems and nothing more sinister

to be honest pal id be checking for air entering the fuel system weather around filter assembly or leak offs from injectors, that certainly would give you the jerking and white smoke symtoms, this car hasnt got a pre delivery pump so it can lift air very easily given any opportunity. if injectors needed coded glow light would flash.
worth a look :)

Goosed injectors sometimes won't through up a code. Mine didn't.
The relay he's referring to is in the fuse box by the battery, it's a little black rectangle one sometimes with a yellow strip down the center, there's 2 side by side and are situated smack bang in the middle of the fuse box.
I'd say it sounds like injectors, personally I'd take it to a diesel specialist and get a leak off test done.
May also be worth cleaning the egr and inlet manifold as they get gunked up big style.

not had time to look today but i will change the relay is there the same one on ebay i can order ??
where is the egr and inlet manifold is it easy to get at and clean??
i will get them things done and then take it in for them to look at properly if the relay is not causing the problem
thanks

the premature operation of the main power relay fault is a red herring.
The loss of power and white smoke usually indicate that the injectors are failing (usually due to biofuel or just fckued)_
if you dont know where the inlet manifold and egr valve are stop wasting your time and take it to a garage. ("mondeo tdci advice ")

Problem sorted apparantly blew some pipe somewhere it now does not jerk around and runs pretty smooth he did say but i cant remember the more clued up will know
?157 to get sorted better than what i was expecting which was ?500-?600
but i get the feeling i still had my eyes ripped out i reckon it took 10 minutes and cost a fiver for the part
so if it happens to anyone else have a look before you pay silly money out
i have another problem though turbo is not working properly but i have a guy who reckons he can fix that with a clean up tommorow for ?30

I agree with ash experience is what you pay for. Iheard a story about a guy was called into a factory where a conveyor for production line had stopped , he did a few tests then went along the line and tapped a motor with his hammer and everything started working .when queried about the bi for ?4o2 for 30minutes he said ?1 for the tap of the hammer and ?400for knowing where to hit. If someone with less experience had been working on your car you could have paid for new injectors and still have your problem
