Lift boot carpet and there should be a white label with everything on it (VIN, Engine and gearbox codes, option codes)

Edit: Did you mean where is it stored electronically?

It is in the dash but its encrypted. Inside dash there will be a nec mcu and a 24c32 or a 24c64, Only way to change it is to use a tool which does it through obd. Also in engine ecu. Im not sure if they store it anywhere else.

Are there vin's at more places ?

Another question is : what obd tool is needed to read the VIN in this type of car

Awesome - what caused it to burn out?

Best thing you can do is wait untill it is raining then the tax inspector - below link - we be singing in the rain rather than checking VIN#

Would it not be easier to remove the engine ECU & battery - then transport on a trailer - can you imagine the tax man bothering with it on a greasy smelly flea bitten trailer.

If any questions asked, you left the lights on - killed the battery - then Justy22 lent you his jump leads which blew the ecu!

It can be hard thing. Dash can be Johnson Controls and no regular tool can do it.
