Some people are saying just fill up with diesel and keep topping every quarter tank? Any advice or should I just take it to a garage?

dont drive it as sh1te will happen get it drained asap, then it only tank will need to be drained ,if you start it it could damage components elsewhere.

Tanks lid located under back seat :) Twist this off and bleed it out with a hosepipe.

If you dont get it all out dont panic...

My wife put about a fiver of unleaded in my Passat 130 tdi a few years ago. The car is still going strong. The advice I was given by a mechanic was if it was diesel in an unleaded car - major issue. Unleaded in a diesel not as much as an issue and depends on the amount.

Drain most of it off as suggested, then top up with loads of diesel.

or see it you can get hose in filler cap to tank, i've heard filling it up would solve it if you only stuck a few gallon in; but personally i wouldn't risk it.. like catikid said you could cause damage to engine components and it will cost a fortune to put right.

I think an M reg Astra should have a drain plug under the petrol tank and should able to drain all in 1 go.

lol

i had a mondeo in years ago he kept driving it,a month later it was wrote off as petrol melted components ,even ford said cost too much to repair.

Wicked .

1) Drain plug - are you nuts - 'it's tight' - give it large' RIPPPP - gush
or it leaks for ever more - damm motor cyclists

2) The car is properbly worth a pund - ?15 of unleaded at todays prices
is baiscially an eggcup full.

3) If you move to the antartic - you sometimes have no choice but to add a
MAXIMUM of 10% gasoline to your diesel - to stop it freezing.

4) Work on therory of what will replacement car cost?
5) How much to drain it at garage ?150+VAT?
6) If mine would keep topping up every 2 days - if you tank it - is tank straps rotten - will it dump the lot on the road?

Have to agree with Meaty here, drain plug on a fuel tank, cant remember the last time I see one.
Just fill it up with diesel and keep topping it up, we still have here joey's working in the petrol stations here and they are always putting the wrong fuel in the tanks, the last one was a shite koren jeep, Joey the pump man put 10euro's of petrol in it, It got tow trucked up to the workshop, I put 20 euro's of diesel in it drove it for 2 days then topped it up and it been OK ever since
What year is an M reg ??

As Meaty has suggested, the car cost ?350 to buy, is due tax and MOT in the next couple of months, so in my head I have put ?50 of diesel in and if that works, its cheaper than the garage bill. If the car blows up, I will buy another one

?15.00 of petrol is about two gallon at present time.

If you through one gallon of cooking oil in the tank then fill the rest with diesel??

Your engine will be running faster then spending money mapping the ECU.

And have rest of the money for Christmas.

So I put the ?50 of diesel in, and the engine seems to be running like it did before. Dont want to tempt fate, so I will be topping up every couple of days for the next two weeks to be on the safe side.

Thats the best bet dont get cocky and keep it over 3 quarters full all the time it will soon mix so theres no problem.
Did it on an old mondeo tdci and it was fine.

A 94 would be at the best a VP30 type injection pump. The only problem is petrol reducing the lubrication of the diesel going through the pump.

Petrol in diesel is only a problem for wear on components, the higher pressure your injection system, the bigger the problem. Old idi systems don't care, older Di systems don't care much, commonrail are incredibly fussy.

I have run petrol in my diesel 4wd to "winterise" a tank of summer diesel. No problems at all but I was running about 3 litres in 60. I know of a 2001 model landcruiser that burnt a tank of 50/50 with no problems and only minor drop in fuel economy.

I would dilute it as much as possible (i.e. fill the tank), if you think that doesn't dilute it enough, then siphon some out and replace it with diesel. Keep the siphonings and pour them in next fill.

skoda superb in today for service diesel, turns out 2 weeks ago put 20euro of petrol into diesel tank, car stopped down the road, filled to brim with diesel and it started, since then hot starting a problem as engine swings over

Funny that, how you read about a problem on DK, then within 3 days, you find you have a simular case to play with (now busy reping with some wicked non-starter threads)

Ah, difference is or question is, did/does the diesel, float on the gasoline, hence why it stopped, but was he low on diesel, and the gasoline 'out numbered' the diesel - by which time ~~~~ed the pump.
