I've used Any Video Converter (http://www.filehippo.com/download_any_video_converter/) to convert a normal avi file to Wii avi format.

I did that because the photo channel can obviously show pictures of a SD or USB drive but it will play videos but they have to be a Wii format avi else they are unrecognised. It isn't a good video player.

I use Freemake (http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/) myself, but I agree with HH. You don't need to bother converting as Wii will play any .avi smoothly.

This is of course unless you set up a wireless link to your network and stream from your computer to the Wii. That's when I find it important to restrict the Audio/Video to the Wii's resolution limitations of 480p, 480i (or 576i PAL) to get the clearest playback. Steaming .VOB files (direct dvd to hdd copy) also works well they're larger files with less information in them so the Wii has the speed to get everything it wants without pixelating the picture. I also fine the same issues with network streaming some surround sound files (Wii doesn't have surround sound anyway).

If you have the video file on hdd directly plugged into the Wii, burnt it to disc or even have the original disc in the Wii ... it should play fine with WiiMC 1.0.1 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/wiimc-1-0-1-1223/), no conversions needed.

I understand your frustration but why would we say thankyou for something we don't need and actually means we need to convert something to play on the wii that can play it without converting it. As has been said avi files can be streamed wirelessly direct from pc to wii so why would we want to waste time converting them then transfering them to hdd

I agree with you, in my case I had an mkv video file that the daughter wanted on her wii, as the wii didn't play it I used said prog... impressed it worked I mistakenly thought it may have been helpful to others who wanted to try something different or maybe they had nothing.

The Dying Art of Saying Please and Thank You

"When I was a child, I was punished for not remembering my manners, especially if I forgot to say 'please' or 'thank you'. Things are changing. Society has become much more accepting of the demanding individual. We are more of a "Give Me" & 'Take' society now. People expect things of right and do not consider it necessary to ask politely for something, nor to Thank someone for something received."

Manners used to be important. Are 'Please' and 'Thank you' dying words in our vocabulary?

Looking @ the amount of views I would like to think that someone found it useful . .

.. . . I'll get my coat !
