Hello,

Is anyone programming in circuit using Soic 8 Pomona clips ?
I just heard that I would have to short the crystal.

Any experience especially with ST 95XXX memory ?

Thx Guys.

Remove to read/write is always safer

hi
i have in circuit Soic 8 clips but i dont use it most time because it need to use good programmer with rising the voltage of reading and it have same error.(i think the 8 pin soic ICs is easy to remove and soldering) .

I read/write in circuit without problem.

I use x prog m clone, with added 12 volts, never let me down (yet!!)

I have UPA and Xprog. UPA is much better at reading in circuit, BUT, XPROG is better at not trying to read unless all pins are connected well. I could not get XPROG to program a Nissan module in circuit even when shorting xtal, but could with UPA. But I eventually corrupted a Nissan with UPA because I didn't clean the pins enough and kept trying to read.

The only corruptions I've had in airbag modules were when not all pins made good connections.

So in my experience:

Xprog better at not corrupting.
UPA better at reading in circuit.

UPA has the voltmeter which helps a little, but a little too late because you have to try to read first to find errors and then it may be too late...

But, from my experience, it takes longer to clean a chip that has lacquer for clipping than to remove it and read. Get a hot air gun.

Once you corrupt one, then you'll always take it out.
